Heading over next week for 5 nights. Never been before and given this thread is 3 years old, any updates or any new 'must do's' from those who have been more recently ? Also still to book the grand canyon/hoover dam tour. Seem to be loads of operators so any recent personal recommendations gratefully received. :thumbsup

cheers.
Where you staying mate?
We were there last year... One of my favourite holidays.

The gun store is a good laugh!

We were there for my mates wedding and they all done the helicopter ride over the grand canyon, but we booked the coach tour to the Hoover Dam instead.
You're better off booking there and then - there will be options through your concierge/ reception. There are discount tickets to be bought on the strip - can remember the vendor name, but all the shows have discounted tickets for last minute bookings through this company.

If your first time, it's worth setting a day aside to wander around all of the hotels. Buy a monorail pass.

Also, get on the Blackjack tables early when it's $5 and stay as long as you can on it as once you are playing at those stakes when the table price goes up you get to stay on 5 bucks! If you want to get drunk cheaply play the cheap tables, they will bring free beer (dollar tip per drink) and order a shot whilst waitress is there.... Neck it then order beer! Our table host told us to to do this and we got quite drunk for very little money ;-)
I have stayed at Luxor where you can upgrade to jacuzzi rooms. Also stayed at Hard Rock which is far from the strip but have pretty cool pool parties. Also stayed at Circus Circus but I suggest avoiding that end if the strip as it is a bit scummy in parts.

I spent a week with 9 guys from Scotland at Moab back in 95, before heading to Crested Bute and then racing downhill in the world cups at Durango ( i got drawn against Greg Herbald in the duel slalom  ) and Vail.

My mate Kev cycled across this  look how high we are up from the river and the road. Fook that.

Not been for a few years now but was a regular visitor every year for the Consumer Electronics Show. Been 7 or 8 times maybe, lost count (as you do in Vegas...)

Only relevant tip would be to look into flights to the Grand Canyon in a plane rather than a helicopter. We were told that the helicopters don't have the range to get you to the best bits, so it's better to go in a light plane. We took a plane, landed, and wandered around for a bit before flying back.

We also got to do a 'Hard Hat' tour of Hoover Dam - getting to go inside and see all the machinery, but they stopped that shortly after 11th of September 2001...

The inevitable strip pub crawl is made more interesting by rating the waitresses outfits out of 10... And then returning to the winning establishment for the rest of the evening :)

Booked in at the Wynn which is up by the stratosphere I understand. The tower was on the list to visit either for the rollercoaster or the restaurant at the top. Think I'll give the bungee jump a miss  Is that you Ross or are you the one safely behind the glass and barrier with the camera?!

Monorail pass sounds a good shout :thumbsup. Off to google the gun store seeing as that gets a couple of mentions.

Scotty that will be a great experience for you i loved Vegas i went on a tour to the grand canyon. We flew over by fix plane (not helicopter) which was excellent. We stayed in three hotels. Circus circus...cheap as chips. The luxor, which was cool. (Thats the pyramid) We also stayed in the venetion. That was wow..huge and sooo expensive. Apparently the best one there. Got a tatoo...leopard on my thigh. I was pished and screamed the place down...fun fun.

Have a great time.

Though that was quite readable compared to Colins usual postings - the signature at the end explains it.

I like Colin (Tinto)'s version of Vegas :-) We stopped by whilst on honeymoon, another vote for Circus Circus for cheap as chips hotel but TBH all are decent value on Sunday nights I believe because the crowds are going back home after losing all their money all weekend.
