First House

Post by s29ttc » Mon Sep 05, 2011 5:52 pm

Well I have been quiet for a wee bit on here, that's Holly and I taken the plunge and purchased our first house together. Its taken a lot of time and effort to get to this stage of completion and I am glad its all came together. It's a 3 bedroom semi sandstone in Stewarton which is in need of some attention so we have been spending our first week with the keys week starting to strip it out. We basically want to take the whole place back to a shell and start from sctrach.

We are currently looking to get the roof fixed and new roof on the existing garage to get it water tight.

We then are looking to get the full house rewired and then looking to start the decorating but we will be looking for new flooring everywhere apart from one room, new kitchen, new bathroom, new showers, new sofas, tv's, building walk in wardrobe, building a bar in one of the rooms and making into a music room etc etc etc

If there are any SE's with any skills or assistance they could provide it would be helpful to pass your details and when we reach each stage we can give you a call to assist.

My arse is making buttons to get the house completed and move in but need to take our time mainly down to have funds available for each part but I can't wait till it's finished and we have our own space with our 2 dogs. Really I am excited about the garage and the music room with all my guitars, piano, a nice bar and big projector for F1 on the big screen.......my ultimate dream room! :thumbsup can't wait :cheers

Congratulations. Was just thinking that you hadn't posted for a while. Its a great feeling when you can sit back in your own place especially when you have had to graft to get it how you want it. Makes all the effort worthwhile. :thumbsup

Thanks for the replys. I've been plying the guitar for a few years and got a small collection which I want to display on the walls of what will be the boys room as in my bedroom at the moment. I want to put in a small bar, a projector for big screen tv, my piano and the guitars up on the wall and use it as a cozy entertainment room! Need to eventually get the Sonos system all wired in etc, going to take some time to get it how we want but will be fantastic when it's done!

The garage is a sort of one and a half size and quite long although it's quite an old construction with an asbestos corrugated roof which is need of replacement. In an ideal world I would like to knock it down and start again but funds won't allow that at this time. The garage is fit for purpose at this time, just need to replace the roof and probably a new door as the door is off the wire which stops it falling back down.

Really be helpful to get give some SE'rs the work as I would rather give my money to someone who I can trust is quoting at the right price and doing the job properly.

The roof work I hope we can beginning in the next 2-3 weeks to get the property totally wind and water tight before the winter kicks in and the next plan of action is rewire the property. Guess we will need to make plans of where to put the sockets what lighting we will need and look at where the tv's will go on the Walls and run any necessary cables. Will be all good fun and a bit of stress but can't wait to see the finished product.

Yeah pass me the link for a swatch please. I know this question will be how long is a piece of string but what do you believe is a ballpark figure for a rewire in a 3 bedroom semi house? I know what ideas I have in my head but was just wanting to see what you thought? We want to get that done after the roof so we can then get the property fully replastered and start the decorating!

I think we will be spending a little longer than 3 months, but is purely down to funding each part, just need to take our time saving the pennies etc and trying to get it done right and not miss anything long the way. I really want all the gadgets going but just need to see what fund availability is and want to plan so we can run any necessary wires along etc along with the re-wire of the property before we plaster everywhere. :thumbsup

Run some spare Cat5/6 (at least one extra) at least at later date you can use it to pull extra cables through.

Take them all to a switch in a cupboard

Congratulations to both of you!

I am happy to help in anyway you need. No use for the rewiring etc but when it comes to the decorating my OCD makes me pretty good with a paint brush, was always good at colouring in and never going past the lines! :thumbsup

Feel free to give me a call when you know where you are at and need an extra set of hands. I told you and Holly two years ago that I'd make my way down for a night out sometime and never committed, this would be a good reason to get my butt down there!
