I had the 911 across at Clark Motorsport and Friday and they were working on the 340.

Chatting, they mentioned that the ECU on the 340 doesn't store fault codes (it drops them as soon as the engine is switched off?) which was making life tricky. Is that normal with the ECU is has?

I wonder if the VTEC mechanism is "stuck on" if that makes any sense ... however, I am in the category of people who cannot offer much useful advice on Honda engine cars.

Cheers,

Think (and it's just think, I don't know) it's a Hondata ecu.

Robin, I did not finish the story about the ditch. I did the Highland Hoon camping run a couple of weeks ago up to Durness, but when I got there my broken finger was swollen up and inflamed. Was advised to get back to my doc and get it injected, so had a quick beer, pain killer, and set off again.

Worst conditions that I have driven in, torrential rain, flooded roads, aquaplaning, and lots of single track road down from Tongue, but fortunately very little traffic. The worn 48R's were being replaced the following week so was really having to concentrate, but I was fine until just short of Methlick and twelve miles from home, when a bit of lack of concentration and a flooded road as I came around a corner put the back end beyond recovery and I ended up going backward down the road on a pond, car snapped again and I floated into the left hand ditch and hit the fence post.

Fortunately although it was nose down, the rear wheels were almost on the road, she had not bottomed, and I was able to back out. Could not believe that there was no damage, but the towing eye had snapped the fence post and there was not even a scratch. I don't wear a watch and had left my phone at the house, so it was not until I got home that I realised I had been driving for fourteen hours. I was not tired thanks to the finger, and had settled into a comfortable pace for the conditions, well used to aquaplaning at high speed at KH and just keeping the wheel straight until the tyres bite again, but this time they didn't.

Yes it does. Stores codes until cleared using Kpro software.

It's a Hondata Kpro, the software is available online and gives you everything you need to know.

Colin has just left mine.

Car was running on 3 cylinders, after quick inspection found No.3 cylinder to be low on compression (75 psi). Looks like the valve clearance has been set to high causing low compression when hot, what helped was the fact that it runs perfect when cold. He is taking it back to Clarke Motorsport as they adjusted this last week.

They also moved the earth for the injectors from the inlet manifold to the rocker cover (the thing that has a big rubber seal at the bottom :scratch), slagging me off for putting the earth where Honda intended it to be.

ECU had no fault codes as no fault was detected, ECU was working as it should with no MIL light either.

Colin will take it back tomorrow, hopefully they will sort it without too much trouble. :thumbsup

Alan

P.S FIx the exhaust manifold, it's cracked and won't be helping anything. Told you this at the camping trip.

He did Tut.

Pointed him in the right direction, you have a separate fan controller which is installed into the cooling system (in-line). This earths the trigger for the Fan Relay which is EHC 1-13 (i think), so can either be the original lotus side of things (Fan Relay up to Fan itself) or the after market Fan Controller/wiring to it (more likely).

Look at the image below, if you have a Hondata you can lower the ECU fan switch and use that. As you have the standard ECU you must use another fan switch. Simples
