Runflats
Re: Runflats
I know my E46 330 touring is specified with XL tyres and I have always bought XL ones - haven't every thought too much about it but that is because the prices for XL and non XL versions are similar.
Re: Runflats
Sorry should of said, can't seem to find 255 40 17 Conti 3 in XL. Can find the fronts 225 45 17.

(that's why I think Mike will do fine, that and his lack of imagination).![]()

Re: Runflats
I know it's slightly off topic but are you sure that BMW were fitting RFT's that far back? My 54-plate 330d didn't have RFTs from the factory and I was always under the impression that runflats were introduced on the E90.vet111s wrote:Have fitted 2 normal tyres to my wife's 03 320d touring. .......... Though what sealed the deal for me was that though BMW were fitting runflats as standard in 03, they weren't fitting tyre pressure guages to all cars so there was no way of knowing if my wife's car had a puncture until it was really flat.
Is it possible the previous owner has fitted runflats in the mistaken belief that it should have them?
Also I thought it was a requirement to have a tyre pressure monitor if runflats were fited?
I'm 99% sure that no E46's should ever have had runflats.

Re: Runflats
Yes my impression too but didnt comment on that. Sure if someone fitted runflats in the past that would have been due to a 'Kwik Fit' type sales talk to dupe someone into spending a couple of hundred pounds more than they neededStevoraith wrote:I know it's slightly off topic but are you sure that BMW were fitting RFT's that far back? Re: Runflats
My MINI was a 51 plate and had RFs.
re: XL tyres; our Saab is supposed to run XLs but I've just put regular ones on the front with no ill effects thus far - about 3 months in. Feels the same, pressures are running the same.
I went with the regular ones as the winter tyres were non-XL and seemed to be fine.

Was possibly due to the car being a motibility car originally and the owner not being happy with changing tyres. Whatever the reason I've been happier with the non run flats.

Re: Runflats
Swapped the MINI runflats for Toyos (Proxes 4s) a couple of weeks ago. Much better! Nice ride, less road noise. Not as grippy outright in the dry, but much more progressive and squealy on the limit. Sort of like going from PZeros to T1-Rs on an S1. Turn-in does feel slightly dulled, but it's still very planted mid-corner as before. Still playing with tyre pressures.
Overall, glad I did it.

I ma finding that the runflat 17s on the BMW are finding the truck grooves on the road waaaaaay more than the old panzer. Moving to runflat 18s soon so can only get better, oh wait a minute....
