Iain, glad to see you posting here a little more, your informative chat* has been missed lately. I've hardly been on any runs this year but I haven't bothered trying to organise any so I can't really moan about it. Hopefully I'll be on your one, never made it over to Mull and one of the best things about a longer run IMO is going somewhere you haven't been before.

Si,

Good shout on the Mull front. I went there twice last year and loved it, and would love to go over for the rally; too late this year, but defo the next.

Good thing about the Mull trip is the run to Oban & back, fantastic roads in the dry. Accomodation is cheap on Mull (as you prob all know) with campsites at a 5'er a head, and Tobermory has a couple of great pubs to get sto-shuss in :)

So.... a trip to Mull next year anyone? get the date finalised asap before our diaries get filled up by other halves!

Simon,

Thanks for further functionality tips re: PM and regular email linking. Great stuff.

Out of interest, what file hosting facility (if any) do we have? Another Yahoo feature which we made good use of in the past was the Shared Files folders.

Also the Database Lists feature.

The Photobucket site is good enough to replace the Yahoo Groups Photos feature, though. And there probably isn't much else needed to give the bulk of what the Group offered, I reckon. Other than the thread Digest idea :-)

cheers

Campbell

Aye, and as with the other metaphor, it wouldn't be my first choice of an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon

All the stuff you've talked about there is being investigated and tested backstage by Simon (I) Problem is that to add things means changing the forum database (I'm told) and we need to do some offline testing in a 'sandpit' forum before he adds it to this one and risks taking down the whole bloody thing!

Shared files area is something we may do in a couple of different ways and discussion/investigation is ongoing about what best to use.

Databasing is what we're currently looking at with an Events forum, which would just contain a special (mod) kind of post, which allowed you to register for an event with a single click (possibly with a 'notes' functionality, for event-specific info) Early stages with that, but it's looking promising.

But it's being worked on. 8)

Been on the Forum most of the day, but still managed to miss this thread.

I believe that most of us agree that the two Forums complement each other, and I think that it was inevitable that the new one with the influx of new members joining in on it would gradually get more traffic. However new blood is essential for growth and continuation, you just can not continue with a staus quo, ie the same events held every year, and the same people continuing as Dorian Grays. I have seen how marriages, new additions to the family etc, have inevitably changed our Elise community, and some like Campbell were founders and serial posters to the group.

However I was surprised and commented on how drastically the posts had dropped off on SE1 recently, 248 in four days this time last year, 19 in the same period this year. Also the local runs in this area are way down compared to what they used to be, Scotty, Ali, Gareth, Uldis etc would regularly get together on a Sunday for a run over the Cairn or the ski slopes, but again, times do not stand still.

I am partly responsible, as I could not bare to miss a trackday, a Stelvio, a TDE, a Ring, any road run, and I don't think reaching OAP would have changed it, but unfortunately the bloody medical setback did. I do not even like to acknowledge it, especially as I should still be kicking 4mm's ass, but both my Doctor and Surgeon are not happy with me belting around the track and road like a teenager because of the strain it is putting on my neck/spine. Hence my abscence recently from past and upcoming events.

However I am damned if I am going to stop enjoying life, and especially my car, whilst I am still able to, so I reckon a set of 48R's and hopefully trace why the engine is not kicking out the power that it should be(air and fuel filters both clean), should kick start me back to life.

One thing that I do find hard now though is the travelling between the fun. 600 miles to get to the Channel to start Stelvio is no longer on, and is also the reason that non local runs have to be pre orgainised such as Ians Skye/Mull in Sept, as opposed to nipping down(320 miles round trip) to the Dukes Pass for a blast and a BBQ.

The Scottish Elise community looks good and strong though, and that is what matters. Bottom line is that we love our cars and driving them as they were meant to be driven, and I do not think that anybody does it better.

He really needs some SE suport from everyone to make this track day happen.

ps forgot to mention the comment that Sanjoy made reference an Outlook .pst file.

There have been just over 100,000 posts since the beginning of of S_E1 in 1999, and I have over 90,000 of them in my Outlook.pst file, now over 2gb in size. Some were lost during a crash, but most are there. I have the file backed up every couple of days on a DVD, so if anybody would like it for reference, then feel free.
