Has anyone here tried......
Has anyone here tried one of these for extra luggage space for long trips?

How much stuff are you taking? Graeme managed 2 weeks camping including cooking gear and food in an Elise... And they took 2 mountain bikes!

I have never seen one in use, but looking at the photos on their website, I'd be concerned that the straps would rub through the cars paintwork pretty quickly.

Elise parts do a luggage rack, it's not cheap but looks good (lotus did one but they appear to be like hens teeth)

Re: Has anyone here tried......
I think the Lotus luggage rack was only for S1 Elises - not suitable for the S2 due to thinner clams. For the same reason I would be concerned that the boot bag would stress the clam and result in cracks or gel coat damage.

Stuff sacks are the key to getting loads of stuff in the elise, it's amazing what you can get in one.

I bought one a month ago but will only be using it on my honeymoon trip in June for the first time. Well made piece of kit and it shouldn't damage the bodywork. Good value when compared to the rack.. Which doesn't fit my elise 1.6 anyway as the engine cover is too high..

Looks like a decent size, but I'm still not convinced that the straps would not shuffle with the wind and rub through the paint. I have seen wedding cars with the paint rubbed through the 'A' pillar from a simple bit of ribbon. I'm also not sure that a pedantic traffic cop would not charge you for obstructing you number plate....

Looks like it would fit nicely on the Esprit boot - except the turbo would melt it on the LHS...

What's the laws on rear visibility too as obviously that pretty much blocks off the rear window...Dominic wrote:I'm also not sure that a pedantic traffic cop would not charge you for obstructing you number plate....

No need for rear viz through the back window as long as you have 2 unobscured mirrors.

Exige V6
Re: Has anyone here tried......
It is the only real concern I have as well, although I plan to insert or cover sections of the straps with a none abrasive material . However in saying that, once properly strapped in place movement should be minimal. That anti slip mat is substantial and very grippy. Also, I am only using it for clothes and toiletries which aren't heavy but take up quite a bit of space in the boot. The boot of my elise is a lot smaller than that of the Exige I used to have.Dominic wrote:Looks like a decent size, but I'm still not convinced that the straps would not shuffle with the wind and rub through the paint.
