my little companion is gone

Post by neilj37 » Fri Mar 25, 2011 7:04 am

My cocker spaniel has not been well for the last 2 weeks as a result of kidney problems. Last night she collapsed and I had to put her to sleep. She was almost 11 years old and I have had her since she was a puppy. I know it was the best thing for her as there was nothing more I could do for her but damn I feel crap this morning. Its strange how something so small can have such an impact on our lives.

:-( Like you say, you had no choice and had the courage to do the right thing when the time came. Plenty of good times to remember her by :-)

Katie & I tend to imagine all our old pets running around in the wind when it rustles in the trees ... soppy I know, but it's what we do :-)

Cheers,
Robin

Sorry to hear your news Neil :(

Echo what others have said, we have a springer who will be 6 this year, and have lost pets in the past.

Wise words from Mandy, chin up fella :)

Really sorry to hear this Neil - you must be feeling pretty raw this morning.

Cockers are great companions. Our Working Cocker is only a young'un at 3 years old & still daft. Can't imagine life without a dog in the house now.

Sorry to hear that. My parents and I have had a lot of dogs over the years, but the one that really holds a special place in our hearts is the cocker spaniel who passed away a few years ago. We still miss her. There is always one dog from time to time that stands out as being special. As others have said, hold onto the good memories, and take your time in finding a suitable replacement.

Not good mate - still well up thinking about my childhood dog and he was put down at least 10 years ago. Whilst they are 'only animals' they take up as much space in your life as most people, so that hole when they are gone is just as big...

Really sorry to hear this Neil. I don't have any dogs but have two cats and will be devastated when they go. Gone but not forgotten.
