Made even harder by the fact i want a 5 door and it must not be silver according to Lynda
gorrie wrote: Anyway... you said you were only looking at running it for 6mths... how many miles are you going to be doing in that period. Is a diesel really necessary for such a short period? I get around 28mpg average out of the petrol.. so it's not too bad. There's not so many RS 175's around, so I reckon your choice would be limited if you want a specific colour/spec.
Yeah agree that they would of been better putting it up against the 225. I thought 5th Gear did i shoot out between them but can't seem to find it :? There must be a comparison somewhere.

Only looking at running one car for 6 months, not running it for only 6 months

I was up for a R26 or 130i but after filling up the Fabia at the weekend, £70 which will do 400-450 town miles where as a petrol in my opinion will get 250-300 miles maybe. Worked it out to be about £1000 a year saving for us, nearly £100 a month. I can see the argument that the diesel car cost more in the first place but it also sells for more when it becomes time to move on.....maybe

I agree, I got 700 miles from the Passat's last tank, approx 68 litres and £90. If I had a petrol of the same size, which wasn't guttless, then there is no chance I would get that economy. I've been changing up under 2k revs though to see the difference. :damnfunny Driving it normally it'll only get 550 miles per tank.

I have pondered this question many times and unfortunately for me the answer is an emphatic NO. The very things I want from a weekend toy - excitement, involvement, razor sharp responses, noise etc - are the very things which would make it a pain in the ass on a day to day basis. There is also zero point in having a high performance car for much of the driving I do - the roads are just too busy to be able to use the extra handling or grunt. On my daily drive to and from work & nursery pick up/drop off, an M3 say would actually be worse than my boggo 320d. Apart from the extra running costs, it would have a far less comfortable ride, and I suspect it would be hugely frustrating never being able to use the performance. Comfortable daily smoker and nutter-spec weekend toy is the way to go :thumbsup

I have that covered, but you would be doing well to do it for £10k.

Yes,yes i hear you :damnfunny

As said i do not want the cost of running 2 cars for 6 months or so, so its going to have to be a compromise. On top of that i fall out of love with the Elise/VX if i am not doing Frolics or at least have a few track days down south planned, for me at least that is what the car is for. Yes i will enjoy the odd road run but i will enjoy it just as much in my fabia VRS as its much easier/safer to exploit its limits.

If i had the money it would be a 4 door e90 M3, but i am doubtful it will achieve 40mpg :thumbsup

I'll put the RS forward and notice I put a blue one below and not my green. Looks more sedate.

So 300bhp, 27mpg, yearly service intervals and they're cheap. My first service coming up with be about £140. £210 for road tax.
Mountune provide a 350bhp kit that's Ford warranty approved for £2k.
It can take 5 adults and my golf clubs. Every toy you need (Sat nav, ipod, voice control, blue tooth, reverse camera etc.)
Will handle well on track too.

I'm just about to hit 12 months of ownership. Likely going to be a record for me.
I've blitzed PH classifieds for months looking for its replacement but yet it's still on my drive. Looking to keep another year now.

Me! I have developed a dislike to spending over £4K per annum on fuel, especially when most of it is for business use.

Are you sure it's not in the £400+ bracket ?

Mind you, if you're willing to sell me yours for £10k I would be prepared to put up with that
