Exhaust/Induction combo

Post by Novice Racer » Mon Aug 14, 2006 10:49 am

Wanting the best noise from my 120bhp Elise S2

Have seen the carbon fibre hurricane induction kit on another car and know a little about the S2 Janspeed exhaust.

Question is, which combination of manufacturers would give a good engine note?

What do you lot have and how much am I looking at?

Finally, where to buy? Elise parts seems well priced with a good range of components.

I've got the ITG/Janspeed Supersport + sports cat combo.

It's fecking loud - but make the car sound like it's got a V8 rather than a K 4 pot.

Mac

PS: It's only loud outside - doesn't seem to bad inside. Get up to Kh at the weekend and have a listen as there will be plenty to hear.

PPS : I use PTP for my janspeed stuff.

I've got the Pipercross/Lotus Stage-2 on my 111R. Appearing at the SIDC morning on Saturday up at KH if you want to lend an ear. One issue is this is probably too loud for a numberof the quieter track days down South.

Not much use for a K series owner though

The PiperX/Stage 2 combo does sound proppa lovely and I wish I could get a K to sound like that.....

mac's car is indeed VERY loud and gives a satisfying vibration thru the ground too!

i've got the hurricane induction kit (in annodised blue) and the standard exhaust. it sounds very good (although not nearly as good as mac's elise), gives a nice roar on acceleration and sounds great in the cylde tunnel.

quite loud in the cabin tho

How much of a difference would induction make to the engine note on its own (ie until I can afford a good quality Janspeed box)?

A surprising amount. Only when you open the throttle though - will be fairly quiet normally, but give a good throaty bark when you gun it.

All dependant on the particular filter, mind you. K&N is pretty loud (& I have a spare for sale) but it sucks in hot air from the engine bay, unless you route ducting to it.

Hurricaine & ITG both give good notes and are sealed to cold air from the side intake. ITG is fearsomely pricey though.

from my experience (yota) all my induction does is create a hissing noise, perhaps make things a touch louder.

The Rover engined boys between them must have tried out every combination possible though :D

on the k series engine the induction kit also gives a hissing sound at idle. it's only when the engine is revved that you get that nice meaty roar.

What do people think of ITG vs Hurricane in terms of price and value for money?

Kind regards

Thinking of putting an ew "can" in this weekend as when cleaning the old one I applied some rough love and it now has the holes at the back of the can Robin suggested. I would go as far as to say that during rough love I knocked the back out of it.
