Exhaust Fume Extraction

Post by paulW » Wed Oct 27, 2010 6:44 pm

Anyone got any cheap and cheerful solutions, to trying to the car up to temp inside the garage, without suffering from cabon monoxide poisoning?

Surely can't be that hard to source some sutiable piping and some sort of extractor fan...

Doesn't have to be HSE standard, just something to stop the eyes itching and collapsing in a heap. :thumbsup

Thanks for ideas, guys. Good call, Sanjoy, looks perfect. :thumbsup

Just need to find a source for the tubing, think plastic tumble dryer hosing might melt. Will pop down B&Q see what they have.

What is the advantage of warming the car up in the garage - other than it being cosy to get into
I thought that it is normally recommended that cars shouldn't be left idling from start up but should be driven on light throttle openings until up to temp? :?

Maybe Paul's clients are very local and he's not wanting them to drive a car whilst it's still on high tickover?

Edit : It's more likely so he can play about with the elise mapping whislt it's in the garage. My garage roof is still releasing hydrocarbons for the last attempt

Plastic tumble drier or general domestic fan ducting hose would be fine apart from the the first part of the hose where exhaust gases are still quite hot. Some aluminium ducting would be fine there...I think I have some that I'm unlikely to use, you are welcome to it...if you can create a mechanism to seal / clamp it to the exhaust tailpipes, you probably don't need extraction as such.

Have fun (!)
