Seatbelt removal

Post by johng » Mon Sep 13, 2010 10:28 pm

Hello,

I recently had my seats replaced with race seats. It's a bit cluttered now around the seats having both seatbelts and harnesses so I'm going to remove the seatbelts and just have the harnesses. My club racer came with just harnesses and I much prefered it to having both seatbelt and harness.

Are there any alarms (lights or audible) that come on when the seatbelts are removed from the car (if so how do you stop them)? Also can the airbag be set off whilst removing the seatbelts?

Cheers, John (2008 exige s2 240pp).

My Exige S only has harnesses fitted, but came from the factory with seatbelts (I have those in a box in case I want to refit them). So I would think that you'll be fine to just remove the seat belts.

The car doesn't (yet) have side air bags/seat belt pre-tensioners; so I don't think there is anything in the seat belt bolts/reels that will cause anything to go bang.

If in any doubt at all, though, why not call either the customer services at Lotus, or just call MMC - I'm sure they fit the harnesses to harness-equipped cars as Lotus aren't allowed to sell them with harnesses, I think. Hence they must know what's involved.

Cheers,
Robin
