Re: Evora
Without having had the pleasure of driving one, which is hopefully the whole point, I still think it's a wierd-looking beastie; from some angles it's OMG and babies, from others it's

Re: Evora
Can someone please explain this to me?
I just don't get it , personally I am not a fan of these but as meatball said each to their own.
Now from what i am seeing a half decent spec Evora is probably going to cost you around the 55k mark
I could probably understand it better if it was say 20k cheaper but i just don't see where everyone is coming from
I understand that it is very quick but so are most other cars in that price bracket and they all seem to offer far more for the money.
Maybe people cant see past the Lotus badge I'm not sure ,or maybe its because they aren't something you see every day who knows
I know there is a couple of people on here with them and I'm not trying to slag them off just wondering when in the position to throw 50k at at car would it be an Evora rather than a C4s,GT2 , Gallardo or vantage etc?

Re: Evora
I won't be buying one. is it attractive ? well that is a subjetive thing some people prefer S2 elises to S1's for instance.
So money..
£60k for an Evora
£140k for a Galalrdo
£73K for a Carrera 4S
£128K for a GT2
£87K for a V8 vantage
Seems like a bargain if that is what it's up against

Re: Evora
I couldn't find a list of "sportscars" in the 50-60k bracket and don't have the time to do a thorough search.
Those where just the cars that where listed I imagine in the same price bracket your looking at Merc Sl's. Caymens, an R8 is still £83k, you could have an X6 or Z4.

Re: Evora
This has been debated quite a bit on other forums - Comparing a brand new Evora to a 6 - 7 year old sportscar etc in terms of purchase price...
You'll obviously get 'more for your money', if you're happy to take a 6 year old Gallardo, but you need to factor in some serious running costs...It was a £100k+ car when new, after all!
Buyers regularly throw £50k+ at a new Cayman S (with options), rather than buy a 5 year old 997 C4S...This is one of the main target markets for the Evora, IMHO...
Like most of the others who appreciate the Evora on this thread, I personally can't afford / justify a new one...But then, I've never ever bought a brand new car, other than a Caterham which arrived in a pile of boxes...
I'll be watching the secondhand prices closely in about 3 years time - If they happen to be around the low-to-mid-£30k mark, I'll be seriously interested...

Re: Evora
There is a difference between liking how it looks and splurging £50k on one.
I personally wouldnt (after seriously considering it, and then coming round to the fact I could buy and run a Tuscan for a fraction of the price as my 2nd car) but I love the exclusivity of it, especially in Aberdeen, and it had the genuine feel that its a serious proposition of a single car daily driver. It has a 3 yr full warranty. running costs should be sensible just like Ross has said. I cannot stand the GTR, I saw 4 on my route home from HHC yesterday and they just dont "rev my engine". I see it as a great piece of engineering but styling, and interior. umm no ta.
Horses for courses, but always find it strange that it gets slated by Lotus forums yet the press love it. I thought it would be the other way round
It could never fit into the Lotus range at a cheaper price. Exiges are £40k+ new so not sure how that represents good value compared to a £50k Evora with a sensible spec.
2nd hand will be interesting. Lotus appear to have not confidence in residual values, so it could end up a used bargain.

Re: Evora
Living in central London now you see all sort of exotics flying about. The two occasions I've seen an Evora on the road they do turn heads regardless of performance etc. Smart looking car, still want one and has rear seats for kiddie who's arriving next month. (plus have E5 ORA on retention still just in case I go car buying )
Re: Evora
It's unfair and pointless comparing new with old. The Evora hasn't been around long enough to have a secondhand price yet. As for value for money, out of all the cars listed the only one that is comparable on price is a cayman and given a choice and having driven both, I would take the Lotus on the basis that it will be considerable cheaper to run, better looking IMO, better driving again IMO, and however you badge it the cayman is an over priced boxter with a roof. Don't get me wrong I am not a Porsche basher as I have had and probably will have again quite a few over the years. That said I suspect in 3 years time the Evora will be worth more due to the fact there will be a lot less of them and those that there will be about will be spec'd quite well.
Lotus still suffer from the plastic car stigma in many peoples eyes so although a lot of people like the look of them they will never commit that much money to owning one, which is a shame because some of the main stream cars metal body is more flimsy than anything made from fibreglass, Impreza anybody!!.

Re: Evora
Having never driven one (sadly) all I can add is that it is so much more appealing in the flesh. I never liked the press release images but as soon as I saw the black one at Murrays I was smitten. If only I had the readies I would splurge on one.
(Actually no I wouldnt, i'd head next door and pick up a 2nd hand Vantage).

Re: Evora
I agree with the comments above about it being pointless comparing the price of a new Evora with other second hand cars. Any new car looks expensive that way (new Fiesta or 18 month old Mondeo? Same price.) The only serious price competitors are the Cayman and GTR - to me one is an overpriced Boxster, and the other is an ugly, naff, willy-waver of a car for those of a shellsuit persuasion
No contest here, but it would be very boring if we all liked the same things
