K series injector cleaner

Reading this months Evo and the long term S1 owner claims to be down on power and is goign to run some injector cleaner thorugh his system.

Thought ?

No - most fuels already have these additives in them.

I had asked Dave Walker about it when I was down at his facility with Ironside a good few months back. You could take them out and have them clean ultrasonically, but again Dave really didn't see the point.

If you can use optimax or ultimate...

I use STP fuel injector cleaner and have proven it works, I just didn't do what it says on the bottle. Wait until the tank is almost empty and then stick the additive in. (in my case 4x the application).

It made the difference between my scirocco passing the MOT on emissions and failing drastically.

ps. Forte speciallist injector cleaner is meant to be even better, but you'd hope so at the cost!

Apart from normal servicing shoudl I be running this stuff every 6 months or so ?

I recall on my old engine Sinclaires putting in some stoff to stop the tappets making so much noise and to get gunk off them. Worth using again as looking towards engine longevity.

I have used both injector cleaner and carb cleaner on a mates MX-5 with startling results but they are known to coke up. Injector cleaner made no difference to my S1 (which is older than yours IIRC) I did the same trick of using it on an empty tank to prevent it being too diluted. What makes you think the injectors are bunged up?

Maybe engine flush? That'll clear out gunky oil, but it's only really useful on older engines where it's been allowed to build up......

I remember a few people on the 106rallye forum having their injectors cleaned ultrasonically and reporting good results.
