Re: LOT Croft & KH Track Weekend July 18-20 - Croft cancelled
Question. Insurance for the track day. I've checked with my insurance and I'm not covered for any track days on my policy and they don't do it as an add on or separate policy for day cover. Whats the best way to do this?
Help appreciated.

You can get a seperate insurance for individual trackday events but costs are pretty high IIRC (something like £250 per event with 10% vehicle value excess and 50% maximum payout, no fire cover etc.).

By far the cheapest way is to (at renewal) get a policy which includes trackdays. My CCI road policy includes 5 free trackdays and additional events are £50...

Tut
Was really more interested in doing Croft as I have not done it before but ive not been on track for ages so might do KH but will likely be a last minute decision as struggling to get off work at the moment as quite a few colleagues are off on their hols
so we are short staffed
I will chip away at my boss over the next day or so and let you know
Cheers
Benny

Looks like thats going to kill the 20th for me then. My renewal's not until next May and I'm not too keen on paying £250 for one days cover!

You'd have to bin you car big time at KH to do 10% excess damage........

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

I'm not so sure. Say its a 15K car, thats 1500 quid of damage. If you do a clam against the tyre wall, your probably looking at 2K for a new clam fitted. If you do it properly, your looking at a new clam, crash structure, lights, rad, etc etc.
I think you could easily do more damage. Thing is just not to crash obviously

Agreed.mckeann wrote: Thing is just not to crash obviously
I still think you'd have to bin it pretty hard (caused by mechanical failure or human errors) to cause the extent of damage mentioned during a trackday. However, in a race situation the chance of damage is MUCH higher.
Neil, good luck with your 1st bike TD. You will love it.

Very difficult to advise someone on track insurance. I have never taken any, although RE now covers me for four. Some of us are not bothered, others think it essential especially with newer and more valuable cars, so you have to make your own decision.
After ten years and over seventy KH's, I have never managed to get near the tyre walls, though I have spun and been off many times. Assuming that you do not contact anybody else, which of course should not happen in a non race event, you have to be driving well above your abilities to reach the walls.
Even Clare did not manage it, though the first time she had ever driven N3 was at KH, and a LHD, 300hp car is not exactly a good starting point. However she did have a valiant attempt at Duffus.

ps Ali, CCI are whom Brian is insured with and trying to pay him off with £8.1K for a Honda S2.

Tut YHPM.
CCI's track excess is something crazy like £5k IIRC.

In my ignornace I assumed that you needed track insurance before you'd be allowed on.
That changes things somewhat. What would happen though if you went off and hit someone on the way off too. Normally they'd claim on your insurance. If you didn't have insurance and they didn't have insurance whats the position?
Might just find myself taking the chance now.

Track day insurance will only cover your own car, not a 3rd party. Bottom line is if you tag someone during an off, its up to them to claim on their insurance, if they have it.
This is why driving standards are so important when you're on a track day

Basically its every man for himself. If you crash on your own, you pay, if someone crashes into you, you still pay. Even if you have insurance, and you wipe somebody out, your insurance will only pay to fix your car.
So you have to be aware of the risks. After all of that, i have never insured myself on track, just taken the risks and driven accordingly (as i do on the road, even with insurance)

I shall sit in 3rd gear the whole day on the inside line with cushions duct taped all round the car.
Thanks for your help. I think my arm has been twisted sufficiently.
