Ouch pricing is a bit strong. At that level they've got another 'Europa' on their hands

I'm heading down to Excel tomorrow to take a gander first hand. Graeme got in touch as he saw my post on here and promised to send up a couple of Lotus stand passes. Nothing in the post so maybe it can be done by the dog 'n' bone. What was interesting during our conversation is that they are testing the engine for the high-powered version due to be released 2010/2011. Twin super chargers by all accounts which, at a complete guess, could be pushing out high 300's with minimal weight gain. Could be very interesting.

yip was down at the motor show too. I like the Evora, bit to pricey for me however
Liked the look of the 2007/2008 elise dash and side pods.

Almost Nissan GTR territory. Hmm that'll be a tough sell.
(Look I really like it, it's going to drive like an Elise and that for me is the number one reason to buy a car. But I don't have 50k, I could stretch to 35k if it was special but 50 is another league).

Problem is that it's easy enough to spend 35K on an elise variant. They need to position this upmarket from that - agree that the GTR has put the cat amongst the pigeons for a lot of manufacturers in this bracket, but at the end of the day it's still a big Japanese computer-driven missile - some people will dig that, some won't. Will be interesting to see just how expensive you can spec an Evora and what the 'normal' spec level will work out at...

i think more concerningly its pretty much Porsche 911 money
Sorry, but a car built by Turnip farmers or a 911?
Its got to be sub £50k to be successful.
Also, would be personally concerned with the depreciation on a £60k Lotus

I wait to see what it's actually like - certainly all the reports are of a car that is nothing like a traditional Lotus in quality terms. Plus, simple fact is they have to sell nowhere near the number of cars that Porsche do.
The septics certainly never had too much of an issue keeping the Esprit production line running (that was well over £50K) for years longer than it really should have - if it works over there (which it should, as a slightly bigger car with the Lotus ethos) it'll be fine.

it's too expensive.
but like the Europa it will find it's true value after a few years in the 2nd hand market and start to look interesting. So when they are really old and sheddy I will look at them more
If your spending 911 money you spend it on a 911

I realise I am probably in the minority here, but if I had 911 money the last thing I would want is a 911 - they simply don't push my buttons.
At that price I would have an Evora but I do wonder how much more you need to spend to get a decent spec.
The timing of the launch is unfortunate if it had been 2 years ago I reckon they would have had high demand and probably at a higher price than they have pitched it now.
