Ive had every variation of clio sport you can have, most are great little cars.
The cup has no ABS, thinner glass, no sound proofing, no Aircon etc they are made for drivers, good deals to be had on them.
Any questions il be happy to answer them

I had a 172 (not a cup). Great fun car to drive,... just a pity I had to drive it to the dealer so often.

Personal experience or just hearsay?
My mum had an old laguna which did 160,000 miles in 3 years and only ever needed a new manifold over and above the normal service items, and was still on its original clutch.

Cool,
seen a couple recently around the £5K mark with average of 40k on the clock.
I have unfinished business with clios as my first car a 16valver met an untimely end when I rammed it into a brick wall.
Seems to get decent reviews and is supposedly a hoot to drive.

I had a clio a few years back - new but spent about 6weeks in the garage in the 1st 13 months. The best thing I ever did with it was put it upside-down in a field.

Should be able to get a lower mileage 182 Cup for that money???
I'd be tempted to spend a wee bit extra and get a Trophy...

Re: Anyone ever had a clio cup 172?
I have a Clio S, not exactly a 172 I know but I have had it now for 9 years and it is just about to get MOT'd and put back on the road.
It is typical renault cheap and bit's break / fall off but now I have owned it for so long It is the best thing since sliced bread I know the car and it starts first time
worst thing about it is the shocks I generally have to change the rears every year, and the key's break lot's and you have to get the thing to the stealers for new keys !

In my experience, Renaults are generally pretty bulletproof mechanically and don't deserve the reputation they seem to have. Trim can be fragile and they can be prone to electrical gremlins, which should make any Lotus owner feel right at home
Parts are pricey by Ford or Vauxhall standards and the dealers are hugely incompetent. I'd certainly take a punt on a 172 if it was at the right money though

Dont get a 172 it doesn't have abs as philthy said, this also makes it more expensive to insure. Get a 182, much better.
From what I remember about the 182's is that you want one with both "cup" packs on the spec's sheet.
I used to own a Trophy... have a look at the reviews.

If you can find a Trophy at a good price get one! I loved mine, a firmer ride than the Elise but it cornered like a housefly!! Had it for over 3 years, the only repairs needed were all 4 brake disc's and pads needed changed and only electrical probs was the alarm working backwards.

Bought Laguna for £8k. 40k miles on clock. Had it for 9 months, spent over £4k keeping it on the road due to intercoolers/springs/disks/sensors/aircon etc going arse up. Part exed it for £2.5k against the Audi...philthy wrote:Victor Meldrew wrote:Its a renault.. it will break after its 2 years old.. run away run away..

Run away I tell you. Just run away...
