Well weather was fecking pish! Hope you survived the return trip on those cut slicks Simon!

That was one fcuked flexi pipe. Just fell in half! Get some pics up. Looked like it had been like it for quite a while too. No real problems either wust alkward access with the rad retun pipe down there.

Good luck with the retest and thanks for the chinese!

Rain eased off a little so it wasn't too bad, I was making sure to avoid all standing water though

Was cool to have 4 Loti at the door too :-) me neighbour came over when u'd all left (not the sxy one sadly) an asked if I'd started a Lotus club :)

The offending (hopefully MOT failing) flexi!

Notice it had broke at the side where the mesh was still intact!

So fingers crossed for the MOT sometime this week. Can't wait to drive it, sounds 10x better now!

cheers

Yep that flexi was well and truly fcuk'ed! Was cool meeting you guys, pity the weather was so manky. Got my car up on ramps today, looks like my flexi's in almost as bad a state, I'll see if I can get pics shortly.

Oh dear....

I have an old flexi that is probably gas tight if you want it. How old is your Liz? If you have a ali pipe running over the exhaust manifold with a bleed point on it against the firewall, it'll be easier to change as you'll have a bit more room for sockets etc. Beware the manifold/flexi joint bolts will be a real PITA! I'll gladly help out if you want a hand, I'm on nights Mon-Thurs but then I'm away to cornwall the week after. It took about 4 hours to change Scott's, most of which was removing the old one....

Here's some pics. Sorry about the shakycam, think I've got a temporary parkinson's or sumat! :tard
I think my flexi's still airtight, it looks like it's just the outer section that's fraying, but it's probably not long until the rest goes. I'm wondering wether to go for your gas-tight one or just skip straight onto one of these: http://www.ptp-ltd.co.uk/shop/ProductDe ... ductID=574 (looks the same as the Eliseparts one to me) Anyone tried one of these? I'm hoping it would last long enough that I won't need to worry about it again...

Are these the manifold/flexi joint bolts you're referring to? They're looking rustalicious!

Looks like you have the early pipe layout with the pipe over the top of the zorst, will make access better (Just crap instead of utterly crap!) Those nuts look like they'll be fun to shift......

That PTP flexi looks fine and it has a lifetime warranty. Give it a whorl. My old flexi looks exactly like yours, tizzes like mad at around 2.5k rpm. Mine is only of use to you if your is leaking. Might be woth putting a jubilee clip around the old one to reduce the tizz.

Remember to undo the bottom engine mount and then use a jack and a block to jack rock the engine forwards (sump towards rear) as this improves clearance, then remove the heatshield carefully through the top. Also pop into a rover dealer and purchase a new manifold-to-frontpipe gasket and four new studs/nuts for the manifold. Some of the studs will stay in, so leave em, but those that come out might as well be replaced with new ones.

PS when undoing the heatshield bolts be carefull not to twist up the heatshield while undoing them ...

Cheers,
Robin
