I can't really help, last time I was in Vegas I went on a 15 hour bender... don't know which hotel I kept my bags at (didn't sleep in the bed) and I don't know what any of the bars were called. I do vaugely remember being in the Voodoo Lounge, then a nightclub at about 6am and a lapdancing place at about 0730.... finished up in Mcdonalds for breakfast at about 10 and got kicked out for being blootered.

- you drink for free if you're playing the puggies, I stayed away from the tables (apart from the tip you have to give the scantily clad waitresses)

I was there 2 years age. We stayed at the MGM Grand, really nice, 5* and well priced. All the hotels are huge, if I remember the MGM has 4500 rooms. The casino floors are amazing. We went along to the Bellagio casino and it was much the same as the MGM as far as quality and size. It's right on the strip too.

As far as the helicopter tour, it was the highlight of Vegas for us. We used an outfit called Papillon and did the Grand Celebration Tour, pick up from the hotel, trip in the front row of a seats helicopter, over Hoover Dam, then over to the Grand Canyon where you land for a brief lunch stop. I think it was about $300US per person but defo once in a lifetime stuff for us.

God, my mrs keeps pestering me to go there for a shotgun, $55 wedding ??? Erm NO! Hope you enjoy your trip though sounds amazing!

I got married there 5 years ago.
I had to laugh - there was a sign outsided the chapel saying "Weddings from $29"
Ours cost $ 1,600 !!
and Elvis signing 3 songs was only $200 of that......

If you're in Vegas and have a car you must drive through Zion National Park, fantastic road. And scenery.

We also headed down into Joshua Tree National Park, inspiration for the U2 album of similar name and location for much of the album artwork. Cholla cactii are something else!

I'd avoid the Bellagio if I were you, looks pretty poor these days since it was sold.

The Palazzo is the newest and the rooms are fantastic. The Wynn is also top drawer, so I'd recommend those two.

Try and take in a Cirque de Soleil show, I saw 'O' and it blew me away. Other good ones, although I haven't seen them are 'Ka' and 'La Reve'

Take a taxi down to Mandalay Bay and then wander up the strip drinking and gambling over the whole day. Pretty good fun. Like someone else also said, flights to the Gran Canyon are pretty good, but if you want to see the best of the Canyon, you have to head over to north of Sedona. The bit just in from the Hoover Dam wasn't as good as I was expecting.

Pretty fun place in small doses.

Heading over next week for 5 nights. Never been before and given this thread is 3 years old, any updates or any new 'must do's' from those who have been more recently ? Also still to book the grand canyon/hoover dam tour. Seem to be loads of operators so any recent personal recommendations gratefully received.

Watching this thread with great interest. For the last 3 years, myself and 4 mates have been saving £40 each a month for our 40th's which we plan to spend in Vegas. We aren't 40 until 2016, so the we'll have a sizeable pot to play with by then

I actually did a tour round this neck of the woods with the Scouts when I was 14 so Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam & such like have already been done. I have a burning desire to fire some big assed guns and hire a rapid chariot.Any other off the wall activities would be welcome. Always fancied mountain biking at Moab but that's a 7 hr drive away which I guess is nowt by US driving distances standards.

Where you staying mate?
We were there last year... One of my favourite holidays.

The gun store is a good laugh!

We were there for my mates wedding and they all done the helicopter ride over the grand canyon, but we booked the coach tour to the Hoover Dam instead.
You're better off booking there and then - there will be options through your concierge/ reception. There are discount tickets to be bought on the strip - can remember the vendor name, but all the shows have discounted tickets for last minute bookings through this company.



If your first time, it's worth setting a day aside to wander around all of the hotels. Buy a monorail pass.
