I went to the doctor on Friday as I am getting a numb felling down the underside of my arm from my elbow all the way to the tips of my pinkie and the finger next to it (the wedding ring finger).

This has been caused by a damaged or trapped nerve. I will have to go to the hospital next week for an x-ray and maybe a scan.

Plus point is he gave me co-dydramol pain killers, now I can get a goods nights sleep

Sympathies extended. I too am recovering from whiplash following the shunt in April. Had the MRI scan last week and got the results on Friday. The good news was no damage to the brain, the bad news a couple of prolapsed discs in the neck vertebrae. The options:

1. Wait and see if the pain/headaches/numbness abate or worsen; or
2. Get a procedure that involves entry through the front of the neck to remove the prolapsed discs, clean the area and use some bone from my pelvis to fuse the vertebrae together. Recovery period several months. Risks; 1-2% weakended arms/legs or wheelchair, ??% no impact on pain plus all the normal risks associated with any medical procedure.

Needless to say I've gone for option 1 with a double dose of painkillers and am hoping the osteopath will be able to do some magic. The consultant did say that there was a real risk of this worsening and that the pain would be so severe that my only option would be the procedure. Happy days. :(

It all adds to the weight of the personal injury claim but like you I'd much rather have my car back in one piece along with a pain free existance. Must admit that the first thought that crossed my mind after getting the news was to track down the twat that shunted me and give him a good shoeing then at the end of it say "sorry, never saw you mate". :x

That’s not good. I hope thing work out for you and that time is a healer.

The doctor said that the symptoms I have are classic sign of whiplash, the main cause of my numbness is when vertebrae 4 and 5 have slipped/detached from each other and damage/nipped the nerve in my spine the nerve them runs to the junction box in my armpit and then down my arm.

I have been on a bit of a downer this weekend, I can not imagine what you are going thru.

It's the discs between 4 & 5 and 5 & 6 that are causing the issues with me as well. Rather than slipping and pushing on the nerve root exiting from the spine the prolapse has pushed in the way and is applying pressure to the spinal chord. My osteopath is pretty good so I'm hoping he can do something to ease the symptoms as I don't fancy option 2 too much.

One way I've found to ease the symptoms is a few bottles of red wine :cheers . Least then you don't know if the headache is caused by the injury or the hangover

Still, could be a lot worse and I get the motor back this week which is a bonus.

I had similar (just 1 prolapsed disc - rugby injury), had right side pain and numbness in my arm. Lots of physio but couldn't sort it. After MRI the consultant was surprised I could still walk. I had similar op to you describe but vertebrae not fused. I lost approx 50% muscle mass in my tricep in the 6 weeks before the op. Instantly better after the op, with 4 weeks recovery in a neck brace. Been OK since but I still get the occasional twinge and got to avoid some sports.

(Actually I should get a HANS...)

I know what you're going through to some extent guys, sympathies.

Sorry to hear that big chap......I hope it turns out ok and nowt serious.
Why rush the 2-11 up to MMC? Let it wait down at Hethel and go fetch it yourself when you are able to......and enjoy some laps etc?
Chin up! (if you excuse the neck injury related pun)!

I'd be tempted to savour the pick up experience and use it as a target for recovery. Although if I was in the position to get the car sooner, I'm not sure how rigidly I'd actually do that in the real world.

Why not speak to Russel Gibbons whilst the car's down there - see what else they can tweak on it for you.

i can recommend Natasha if you ever need a good osteopath.
ive been to a few, having had neck problems ever since i crashed my road (pedal) bike into the back of a bmw.
others have relieved pain, but she is the best ive been to by far.
