I've tried searching through the olds stuff on tyres but can't find what I'm looking for. I have a fairly well cracked and craised set of Bridgestones on the front 195/50/15, they look pretty old and I'm finally getting round to replacing them now that I'm confident enough to drive above 30tuts. I had always thought that the T1-R was the way to go but am I wrong? And should I switch back to the standard profile 185/55/15. Purely road stuff, I have no intentions of destroying my brakes, tyres and clam on the track (what a looser). Price very different 195/50 are £44 fitted and 185/55 are much dearer (suprisingly) at £58. Open to suggestions however. Lotus reccomending Yoko C-drives but I had them on the corsa (oh the shame) and found them to be pretty average under pressure and appauling in the drizzel.
Sorry to bring this up AGAIN but you assistance would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Money no object - Yoko Advan (available thru MMC with SE discount) Great in all conditions, but not cheap.
Other than that, the T-1R is a great tyre, ask Hambo, he's running them.

I like them, they take a wee bit of scrubbing in though

T1'rs are a very safe bet for use all year round. A decent balance is the std original width on the front and the wide option size on the back. Very stable safe handling car.
Think it 185' on front and 225's at the back. I think that was std fitment on some cars. (111s I think)
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Quite agree. I got a full set of Yokos fitted by MMC for the old S2 and was stung the best part of £1K

I think the one's that shug is referring to only come in S1 (ie 15" front) sizes. Might be talking pish though.

Put a set of Maragoni Zeta Lineas on for Fridays session. After initially melting them jelly after 5 laps they seemed to settle down with heat. Not been out in the wet with them yet though. Same price as T1s.

T1-Rs are decent. Predictable in the wet, still decent in the dry, although mine now have some marble like bits on them following Knockhill on Friday (I figure this is normal...)
Not really driven a 'liz on anything else mind, except t1-s, and the Rs are better I reckon.
Check out
http://www.camskill.co.uk/ for a decent price too, although remember you'll still need to get 'em fitted (between 8-15 quid per tyre from my experience!)

Like you - I was looking for some advice about tyres on here a wee while ago. The general concencus was to go for the Yoko Advan AD07s. Admittedly I was only looking for 2 rears - but got them supplied and fitted by MMC for £280 (including SE discount) From memory fitting was £20 a tyre. Definately can be done cheaper if you are prepared to look around. Wheelsaround.com can sort you out. Can't complain about the Yokos.

AD07 is an S2 specific tyre - smee here has an S1 & different sized wheels. Advans are the ones for this

Thanks for putting me right Shug. All the S1 / S2 subtleties are still a bit new to me, but learning all the time.

T1-Rs are awesome in the wet but nowhere near as good as A048s in the dry they are cheaper and last for ever in comparison - depends what you want them for

You cannot beat Toyo T1-whatever for value and performance and safety in the wet - where it matters most.
The Yoko Advan Neovas are I *think* now rebranded as Yoko C-Drive, but never tried either personally. Can say that several people felt the Advan was the perfect compromise for wet and dry and track use. Not surprising since Lotus designed it with Yoko as a recommended replacement for the lethal and now maybe defunct Pirelli P-zero asymmetrico.
Although I do note that the P-zero was a cracking dry track day tyre, as proven by Mr Boag recently too I believe?! But do not buy these under any circumstances.
Toyo all the way. Camskill pricing hard to beat but look at mytyres.co.uk and blackcircles.com too.
I get mine fitted for £8-£10 a corner by Willie at CLCM in Edinburgh but that's a long way from Inverurie

I would say Yoko (Neova) all the way. The Neova's are still Neovas; the C-drive is a cheaper more road orientated tyre.
Tom was talking about a Khumo that's reletively recent to the market that has had good reviews on SELOC and is cheap at Andy's at the week, could be worth a search over there?
