Well....you are mod/admin,I think it would be a great idea to create somthing such as the "SE bible" ?

So the next punter in my boat , doesnt need to go to meets n stuff just to get a feel for the group?

Rather selfish forum in some respect ? Expecting every newbie to hone the SE etiquette with no guidence?

Scotty C - good of you to start a vague arguement and go away on hol!
Gareth - read the good bits ignore the rest.
Jamie - you are an adult....think before you post please!

We can only offer our advice, based on our experiences, we cannot make people take the advice!
If the advice is consistently ignored......don't offer it to them!

noobie awaiting flaming!

I'm one of many, but yep - I think it's a good idea too. I believe campbell was working on something, which I hope we can put in place very soon.

Problem has arisen as the group has snowballed with the much easier forum interface - the mods pride themselves on being hands-off, but in this case, I think you're right in that more help for new members should be offered. We're all learning. 8)

Well this thread has occupied a good few hours of my time now (general chat is good ), I am off for a shower , Shug , have a think bout the "SE Bible" to make things clearer for folk.

Shucks this board is demanding, I do enjoy it though , even the healthy debates. :thumbsup

Obi Wan on TSE wrote: In 1999 a group of enthusiasts struck up a friendship to provide help and support for each other throughout ownership of the then recently launched Lotus Elise.

Communicating initially via e-mail, the distribution list grew to the point whereby an online newsgroup was established, under the moniker of 'Scottish_Elises'

Over the past five years, the Scottish Elises group has gone from strength to strength, with membership levels now running in excess of 300. One of the members also maintains the Scottish Elises website at http://www.scottish-elises.org.uk/

As well as help and advice on the day to day practicalities of Elise ownership, the group also provides opportunities for members to drive their cars in the manner for which they were designed. This includes numerous road runs and track days, both local to Scotland and further afield.

The natural progression from track days to racing has led to several members taking up the challenge of competing in motorsport at various levels.

The concept of 'Team Scottish Elises' was formed during the Winter of 2003, as a means of providing support for the members undertaking a season in motorsport, and also cattaloging the trials and tribulations of Scottish_Elises club racing in 2004
So okay maybe we should of maybe made it clear that this place called SE2 is only the latest embodiment of scottish elises

So come along to the speed fair say hello and be made completely welcome. We can even introduce you to the infamous Tut but don't worry we will keep him on his lead

Good on ya Jamie mate for defending a position and putting forward some more than reasonable points of view, even though they might be contrary to the majority on here. I am not really sure who is in the Muppet Section either but dont imagine its all aimed at you

I have never taken part in a road run and have only done a handful of track days and have probably only really met less then a dozen of fellow SEers. I would probably also be the last person to contribute anything worth reading in the Technical Section. I do float around various car forums for obvious reasons and you probably just need to take on trust that the Scottish Elises group (real persona and internet persona) is fundamentally different to most. Generally I actually think it is combination of the fact that Lotus remains a fairly niche market car and with the smallish geographical area we come from. The fact that you are as likely to recognise a fellow Lotus owner in the local Tescos and have a chat as you are to pass them on the road one day and have a wave gives a better friendly community feeling to the group and folk in communities usually tend to support their friends and if nothing else try not to let them down.

Anyhow, less of this stereotyping car owners... a guy can get a split personality complex!!! :blackeye

Expecting every newbie to hone the SE etiquette with no guidence?
Surely what is posted should be in the main common sense / common decency and doesn't require guidance.

No one posts 'blind' on a forum - you see the standards that apply and when they get pushed to the limit there is a friendly nudge to tone it down, (or a flaming).

The risk to those that choose to ignore common sense in what is posted has been pointed out only too well through the Pistonheads/ Honda crash thread that came back to condemn the poster.

He did make a fair point in that we're not like a lot of car forums. I agree that perhaps it's easy for the guys who have been on the forum years to sit back and scoff at posts when it's obvious that we don't post stuff like that on SE - that's why I'm in favour of this charter idea, nothing complex.
