Wideband sensors + controllers

Post by Shug » Wed May 21, 2008 11:17 am

Question for anyone who's actually used the products, or has indirect experience or opinions.

Looking at some widebands on fleabay - there's an AEM UEGO gauge with the built controller - would inolve quite a cable run to and from the engine bay with the signal wire to ECU. There's also a Techedge one, which is an Aussie kit, developed from DIY kits. Has a separate controller + gauge. Don't talk to me about the LC-1 - wouldn't touch it with a bargepole, never heard of one that didn't break...

Views on either? Or any alternatives in the budget price range?

i am using the lc1 have done for over a year and heard of no problems with the later ones but they are sensentive to being wired right including ground earths
mine runs target fuel so if it went faulty or the bosch sensor went dicky my car would cut out as a safe measure
if the ecu ( dta) reads a % over whats allowed it will shut down so the engine will not be running with the wrong afr

I know of four, wired by very competant builders (ie not me) that have gone phut. Would not touch them. End of.

LC-1 nearly a year no problems yet *touches wood* thats in the manky Porker exhaust and wired in by a gibbon (me!) Its even strapped to the torque tube outside the car with jublie clips...

Supposedly there was problems with the 6 wire versions packing up due to grouding issues, the new ones (7 wire) have seperate earths for the heater and the electronics. It was a design flaw that is *Supposedly* fixed now, so Innovate claim anyway.

I only use it for tuning and EGO trim so a failed sensor would revert to VE and I probably wouldn't notice....

I do have a very pretty DIY AFR meter now though so there is a slight chance I'd spot it! :D

rich your right the lc1 had a controller problem approx 18 mths ago i know as my lc1 was exchanged for the later improved version foc under g-tee they seem fine now with most issues being ground set problems but this applies to any wide band
shug any of the above in your post are quite good but check what sensor they use as some versions dont use the bosch
if its cheap you want how about diy or fully built but without case
http://14point7.com/JAW/JAW.htm
there is a group buy going on at the moment but add import tax however the sensors are also in the buy and are very cheap if intrested send u2u you will have to be quick for the buy
zeoitronix do a nice one with good features but again stateside and not so cheap

Buy a KMS, I have gone through 3 LC1's and my car has only been on the road 6 months.. DO NOT BUY AN LC1!!! Total crap!!!! The guy who built my car no longer uses them due to the problems with them and now uses KMS and has had no problems, KMS is more expensive £350 as oposed to £150...

Off topic.... Hi stu, how's tricks mate? do you still heve your 160? not been round your bit in a while as moved to the burgh, getting an elise soon so will be pestering you for advice and some nice alloy bits, hahaha,

Cheers

I'd be interested to know (Mainly cos I've got one) if these LC-1's were 6 wire or the newer 7 wire units?
Any fail recently, they changed the design some time ago IIRC.

Mine failed last in february, it was 2 days old!!!! Yes it was installed and set up right  , I have not much faith in them now, car was running great on it recently though but has become very lumpy again so I'll have to get it checked out but I do suspect the LC1 again......

Mark...

P.S I'l check the wires on the diagram when I get home, Ali has my car at the moment so I can't check the actual unit until I get it back..

From the sounds of it setup and connection are not the problem here.

Do you guys run closed loop all the time then? Mine only runs as a correction factor on cruise, just a few % trim either way.

Like wise just used for corrections and does it well when it does work and again only within a few % if I get higher corrections and I have seen 40% i disregard these corrections and delete them, I am using a DTA S60 pro ECU along with the LC1, it is the unit with the seperate heater ground that I have, I'll reset it and do a fresh air calibration when I get the car back from Ali and see what's happening then...

I really havn't got much of a clue about these things but are you after something like this... http://www.stackltd.com/instruments.html

I was going to put one of them in my car as I've taken my stereo out and the only gauge pannel I can find holds 3 gauges...oil temp, oil pressure and one of them (figured it would be useful for something). Also means all your gauges are still Stack.
