Sounds like an excellent idea! What time do you have in mind, I normally finish about 2am, but my 2 ic owes me a favour so I'll make it anytime really

I have to get up tomorrow to get to Mark Hutcheson in Banchory for 9am...

I fancy the RB5 wets as I'm a bit worried about aquaplaning in the wet and I'll be the guinea pig for SE

I think the cars-gb site is a bit outdated. The dots for the compound are different now (red, yellow, 2 yellow, blue) and the available sizes are different:

You will be wanting the 185/55R15 and 205/50R16 for an S1.

It doesn't look like they do the RB5 Wet anymore, but best to ask (and order from) the manufacturer directly:

The RB5 Wet are hand cut from the std RB5. I dont know if they still do the cutting but I suspect you will have to pay extra for it.

No, but Stu cut some 5s into the wet pattern (like wot they do at the factory anyway) and reported a slight reduction in aquaplaning and complete loss of the scream.

You turn up at mine, we swap the wheels over, then drive the route from KDY to Dundee, then back to mine to swap wheels back..

Say 8.30 at mine, swap wheels. Leave mine just after 09.00 when the rush hour is over then loop round to North of Fife then back to mine for around 10.30 ish.

IMHO they are fantastic in the dry! And the noise! I missed it on the return journey, awesome!

However, on the way out with cold tyres we went through a bit of water on the road, not standing water, just wet... Fcuk me they're slippery!

Having considered the options, I am now saving for a new set of wheels so I can have a set for fun days out, I don't really think I could live with them day to day

See - this is what gets me about maxies. The double yellows I used to run were THE BEST damp weather tyre on the planet, right up to the point of standing water.

These (my) single yellows are particularly pish in the damp, levelling off to quite pish in the dry.

If they were a 100% sure thing each time, I'd never moan - but it seems that they change every 3 months and it's a lottery as to how good your set ends up.....

My first set were great (old dot system,) my second set were pish and my last two sets have been pretty good. All single yellow compound.

There is an alternative, Indy Sport TR, German retreads available in nearly Elise sizes for Maxsport money:

185/55R15 or 195/50R15 fronts
205/45R16 rears (slightly too low profile, but they will obviously fit.)

These are the ones Brunty runs on his Scirocco and they still make the whine

I *believe* this to be correct, perhaps they do have a 205/50R16 or 225/45R16 - I dunno. I saw these on an Elise at Elvington Airfield around the time that these Maxsport consistency issues first surfaced. He said they were much better than Maxports, which he had tried before.

You can get them from http://www.ears.co.uk/ The 16 inch rears are not listed on their site but if you phone them I believe you can get them no problem.
