Thanks but I'm kinda happy where I am and I've heard the wages aren't that good in the construction side

Help with the college work would be appreciated though, I need to get at least my HNC out the way so I can start the process of joining the ICE before they let me become the design manager.

<cough>

Anyone want to come round to my new house for T and scones whilst standing beside a lovely wall in my kitchen....? I can often be found next to it waxing lyrically about whether or not its retaining, and also how easy it would be to have it taken down...

I can advise you on the railway method of asertaining if a wall is structural, retaining or otherwise.

(just knock it down, if your covered in earth then it was a retanining wall)

He gets a flashy sticker saying 'Hey I'm chartered'. Unfortunately I have a bit of work to get chartered due to my degree being a BSc from Caley which isnt recognised by the institute as the necessary level for fastrack to being chartered.

Ninja, what kind of money are Fairhurst paying these days, need any engineers? I can do anything from Mrs McGlumfer's attic conversion to 100 million £ projects

I'm just down the hill at Beattie Watkinson by the way :P

I'd be interested to know too - nothing more than idle curiosity though. Remember what some of the "techy" folk were on from the construction side the last time I tried for my HNC and to be honest, I wouldn't have gotten out of bed for the money these guys were getting paid!

graduate engineers normally about 20k straight out of uni

pre chartered engineers say 4 years experience = 25-28k

chartered engineers = 30-35k

i'm 37-40k (not saying how much, lol) + company car + free petrol

and yes we're looking for engineers and draffies too if you know anyone who would be interested!

mac FYI when i graduated i was on 10k and that was well paid! lol, god i'm old

For the right money I would be interested, perfectly happy where I am and love the work I am doing except the pay.

Currently doing mainly large steel frames with a bit of concrete, mostly designed using RAM at the moment but soon switching to CSC Building Designer. Graduated in (wait a minute till I count on my fingers) 99 so thats (hold on) nearly 7 years experience.

What kind of ££'s might be offered ?

Non qualified (and for the railway a qualification equals a HNC) experience tech such as myself is look at between 25-30K basic on the railway. Once I get my HNC I can expect between 30 & 35k basic.

I am rostered 8 weekends out of 13 and get paid T+1/2 at the weekend, plus 2 days off midweek that I can work for OT.

Most of us pull in our basic + 75%. Got a van for to and from work but no personal mileage.

We have a 21 year old on a 19k basic, and he thinks he's underpaid!!!!
