The State of my Car!!!

Post by Colin » Tue Apr 29, 2008 10:48 am

If you dont all know some stupid idiot reversed into my car the other day, please all have a look and tell me if you think its a write off.

Just another word to say thanks to John, he put me in touch with Europa Consultants who are dropping off a Boxter tommorrow as a replacement car.

Certainly not a write off, and if you were paying for it yourself, easily repairable.

However if it is an insurance claim, insist on a new clamshell, as what could appear to be a perfect repair and spray, will probably turn into cracks in the gel coat after a few months.

Dom had pointed out that it may be a write off as i cannot open the drivers door properly, picture does not do it justice as its a mess underneath the bonnett.

Is the chassis damaged? Door not opening properly probably down to clam being pushed back off it's mounts, but that's no problem. The mess (if it's black fibreglass) would be the crash structure and is just cut off and replaced. If there's any bent metal, there's more of an issue as suspension pickups could be damaged. In that case, it can be written off.

John put my in touch with Europa Consultants and they are charging the other parties insurance for the rental of the Boxter.

Managed to get the guy down to the police station after the accident to get him to admit liability straight away so that really helped!!!!

Will keep you in the loop about the repairs

Shug it has black plastic which is cracked at the front which i beileve holds the front bumper on. You can basically lift one part up of the bonnett up and the other one falls away, why driving home the engine was not cooling down either which would mean the radiator may be gone too.

Not crashed many cars in my time so new experience, his Mini Coopers back wheel was stting at an angle after the accident to.

That black stuff is woven fibreglass - the crash structure. It's done it's job. If it drove straight, you'll be fine. Rad, crash structure and new front clam. As long as you didn't boil the engine on the way home, of course.

When i spoke to Steve Walker a couple of weeks back he said front clams were on back order so you may have the Boxter for some time!
Did the hire company deal with the insurance co. for you ? As a boxter sounds a lot more appealing than the usual corsa`s or clio`s
Do you have a number for them Colin?

No got it straight home to the delight of the fiancee as i have now nicked her 1.2 VX Corsa SXI (Hey its the sports model!!!!!). Also yeah i did drive fine home, not pulling to the side or anything, breaks are ok too so things may be looking up.

The whiplash claim should stand me in good stead for getting the car de catted and the ECU modified to kick the 2nd cam in at 5k rpm.

my 111r door wouldn't open after it mated with a deer.

Was just the clam being moved back through force of impact though :thumbsup

Good luck getting it sorted

jeez.... what do I have to do to get someone to reverse into my car!!?!? How come they only reverse into the shiny ones and not the ones that could actually do with a new clam like mine!
