Interesting - but typically super-cheesy - online vid on apple's site demo-ing the enhancements. The new tools linking Mail with Address book and iCal look good, but not "spend cash and upgrade good"... and the backup tool looks good/convenient.
Early doors though. Think I'm happy enough with Tiger for now

I have upgraded and so far i haven't seen any huge changes some features are pretty slick but not as big a change as tiger was with expose etc. Spaces i haven't really find them to be that useful. Time machine seems to be a bit of a winner. That said the new finder preview while not being a huge change i can see it being one of those essential features you don't notice but if it was to stop working you would be totally lost the same as expose is just now.
Meant to be lots of change under the bonnet but Helen who is a unix nerd knows way more about that then i know. But she is only discovering that under the shiny stuff is a full unix system and she has plans for my big powermac
which has become ours not mine
but be warned if you have any unsanity products that use application enhancer it will cause hassle on the upgrade.
So i would say wait till the first update appears which should be soon
Oh and i hate the new semi transparent menu at the top but i do like the reflective dock.

Course it's solid, it's on a Mac. With Tiger being so good it was always going to be tough to improve on it without destroying what they had achieved. It is responsible for the most amount of switchers of any mac os to date.colin adams wrote:Just upgraded, it's really neat and wonder of wonders faster than Tiger - by a bit. Will take a bit to get used to the new gizmos but it feels really solid.... so far

And microsoft tried to copy the look with vista.
BTW got one of the new ipod touch's when on holiday. Probably the best gadget i've every had. Music, video, internet all in one and the pinch zoom is ace.

Still thinking about it for my iMac 24" Core 2 Extreme but not justified the£75.20 price yet. Does anybody know if a single user copy actually installs on 2 machines. I also have an iBook and would think about getting a copy of Leopard if it installed on both machines ok. I don't use them both at the same time so don't see why I should have to buy 2 copies/family pack. I know the original Tiger software installed on more than one machine okay.
Anyone tried the iWork software? My iMac came with iMac 08 trail and after an hour I was sold by Keynote alone. Got the full package and just love the quality of the presentations and ease of use. My tutor's at college said my Keynote presentation on Child Rights was the slickest they had ever seen. It was far easier than PowerPoint and was a synch to include media from iPhoto, iTunes and iMovie. Since getting it I have also used their Word Processor Pages and again works great with all iLife software and great professional results with ease. Keynote allows you to save straight to iPod video so I was even able to hook my iPod up to an overhead projector and run my presentation straight from my new iPod Nano.

I never really gave the iWork trial on my machine enough of my time... but I was frustrated by Numbers struggling with Excel workbook compatibility, and Pages messing-up other folks' formatting in MSWordSkyenet wrote:Anyone tried the iWork software? But I'm currently happily using NeoOffice... [free software faction
Upgraded on 2 of my machines with good results - would say it's worth the cost but like some I'm a bit of an Apple fanatic.
The Family pack is good value - allows install on 5 machines for £120.
The latest version of iWork is great; have been using Appleworks up until a few weeks ago, with Neooffice for files created by MS Office. Tried the 30 day trial and had to buy at the end of it! Agreed that Neo does a good job but iWork is just so much slicker, although I never used Excel much.

There is nothing stopping you putting your copy on 2,3 or 10 machines. I put tiger on 2 when it first came out. The license is only single user though. family pack is good value as it gives you 5 license as long as they are all in the same household.
Will be getting it myself at some point as like everybody else am a bit of an apple fanatic.
It' all so shinny
24" imac
13" mac book
Ipod touch, 80gb ipod video, 4gb nano, 1 gb shuffle
iphone 8gb
PS if you haven't got it yet i-life o8 is a huge improvement and worth the cash.
