Help please?

Last night had the car out for a wee blast, as it was a little cold I put the heat up air con on .

After a while I turned it down and then back up, when I turned it back up it just went cold, then the temp gauge starting rising sharply.

It got to 110c and I got a little worried, stopped for couple of mins and restarted it and the same thing happened, the cooling fan was going mental as you would expect. theres definately water in the bottle so with my limited knowledge of Lotus engines (engines in general!) i havent got a clue whats wrong

Got it home as quick as I could now scared to drive it.

Will call MMC today as it is covered by warranty but is it serious?

Strange, could be an airlock? Dunno what would cause the temp rise after the heater going cold?

lack of coolant in the system, or water pump problem? If there's no coolant circulating to the heater matrix, it wont get hot...

How's the coolant level when the engine's cold scotty?

not sure the bottle is weird like its split in 2 so its a little difficult to see the level.

It was hot but just went cold.

Lotus assist coming this afternoon so hopefully be resolved.

AA guy of the opinion that there was an airlock.

So will keep an eye on it for the next couple of days.

How's the coolant level when the engine's cold scotty?

Try finding a really steep hill Park nose down and let it idle for a bit. Turn it off and let it cool down. Top up coolant to a little bit above the max. Then take the car out and wring its neck for 20 mins then return to same hill... let it cool down and top up again if needed... should be sorted.

Still not got car back!

Apparently its an intermittent problem which means we dont really know what we are doing!!!

I told lotus when i was down that it was broken and head of customer services has gotten involved, he said the first thing they should have done was to pressure test the cooling system, apparently MMC don't have the equipment to pressure test so what have they been doing for the best part of a week????!!!!

not got the gear !!

im probably talking bo..ox but a tangy (hand) pump and a fitting or 2 will pressure test it fine.

That is pathetic!
You can do it yourself with an Ezbleed kit and a tyre. The cap will fit the expansion tank just make sure the tyre is really low, like 3-5 psi.

yeah i do pressure testing at my work on downhole oil tools so found this statement pretty silly.

it would be pretty easy to pressure test the system.

Anyway, i got a call this morning and the elieve they have now found the problem (i hope).

One of the long hoses which go from front to back has been kinking bugt not closing and this has been causing back pressure so they are away to road test it again and hopefully i will get my car back soon.
