Brake Problem - Now how to bleed / change fluid

Post by Sanjøy » Mon Mar 06, 2006 1:59 pm

After a full day at East fortune I noticed the brake travel was more than normal. This culminated with a distinct lack of braking at the end of the straight.Did a warm down then came in.

The front left calliper was making a loud creaking noise when depressed. Al form MMC had a look but nothing was visible and no fluid leaks.

Any initial thoughts before I get it in to the garage ?

I'd go with moisture in the fluid, which boils under hard use and causes a vapour lock.

Time to change fluid IMHO.

Ask DDtB :D

Braided hoses are a good idea.

But if you need an on-line guide I don't think you should be playing around with brakes

I used one.....

It's only a hydraulic system, just ensure it doesn't leak and all the air is out.

Fcuk it up and you'll know pretty quickly though....

Anyone fancy a spanners day next week? Need to change brake fluid, possibly fit braided hoses and change heater matrix.

After having brake fade and a seriously spongy pedal for several miles, I will be flushing through the brakes on my car.

Looking for advice on the make of brake fluid.. i.e. do I just walk into halfords and buy the most expensive or is it better to order competition fluid from demon tweeks? There has been so much talk on fluid I get confused reading the threads on the yahoo site and on here.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Fluid,

you can put exotic stuff in if you really want but most use Castol Super DOT 4 - about £10 per litre from Halfords - you need about 1l but get 2 if it's your only car!

I found I didn't need one, use an easy bleed and just hop in and push it yourself  Beware of too much movement as (I think someone said on here) you can hit any corrosion at the end of the master cylinder.

I have said it before but:

PRESSURE TEST THE EAZIBLEED BEFORE FILLING IT UP WITH FLUID!

Or you'll have a front compartment full of fluid, like me
