Exige Attention

Post by Jamie84 » Wed Sep 12, 2007 10:52 pm

hey dudes , not been posting much as I have been driving non stop since getting my car sorted. Having great fun, cars driving like a dream.

I didnt think the car would get as much attention as it does, its bloody unbelievable sometimes not in a good way . I had it up the city center few days ago and people stoped to look at it when i parked up, young boy took photo on phone and two junkies shouted in a junkie voice " here m8 jae waant us tae keep an eye on that fur ye wen yer away " ....i crossed the road and looked back at the car as you do only to see two young boys touching it . I shouted in my hardest voice possible "get your hands off it you little @£$%$" and everyone turned and looked at me . Great eh , i then promptly went to frasers bought one thing then abandoned the rest of the shopping i had planned cause i was sh*t it bout the car .

I didnt think it would be on this scale , people look at it as if its a zonda or summit , EVERYONE comments .

I dont think my chrome orange paint helps either , maybe i should have went for the stealth black option.

dont get me wrong i dont mind a bit of attention as i am sure everyone does but this is crazy.

I take it most of you guys have similar problems???

I too got it all the time when I had the yellow exige. I got more wank comments I think because it was yellow, I was younger at 22 (and I guess because people think Im a wank  )

The s1 snaps necks way more than the s2 did but yet to get any negative comments my guess being because its not a loud colour. People seem to think loud colour = give abuse.

I also gave up long ago worrying about it when its parked, and leave it all over the place at all times day and night and have had no bother.

Just having made the move from Elise to Exige, I can confirm that the Exige definitely attracts way more attention than my Elise ever did. Could perhaps be the colour too. I had a grey Elise and now a magnetic blue Exige. While it doesn't stand out as much as the Chrome Orange, it's a pretty vibrant colour so does stand out against your average car.

Yet to receive any negative comments . . . highlight so far was in Oban on 2nd day of ownership when a group of young lads told me they were in love with my car when I came back to find them all taking pictures of it on camera phones!

I thought i would get alot of the negative treatment but to be honest its not been to bad . All the neds same to love it prob cause it has a spoiler and sounds loud, older folk have described it as "some bit of machinery"
and in general its all good.

Ive just turned 23 , few people asked what i do for a living , one person in particular asked my m8 If was some sort of drug running gangster

Its all positive attention but just too much , my g/f hates it too !

I think the thing alot of people dont grasp is that its actually quite an affordable car. Probably because it wouldnt really look out of place next to lambos, ferraris etc. Most non petrolheads have no idea what its is and just assume it costs a fortune.

Had my Exige for 2.5 years and have no idea how many hundreds of photos have been taken of her. Never had much trouble really although did have one gang of lads throw things at me and one ned try and ram me in his BMW.

I had a police car stop in the middle of the road when I was in a traffic jam at Hampden, it stopped parallel to me with a female cop driving who was holding the traffic up, she just smiled admiringly at my car (well I think it was the car) and then drove off.

The nice comments far out weigh the bad ones. You have to love your Exige :love

Exactly- and nice to know/worth remembering that we own what for many is an uttainable dream car; always makes me think when anyone comments and makes the hard work worthwhile :)

spot on there JJ, I was bit weary bout buying the car at first , in fear of being labeled a "show off" by my m8s . Spoke to them bout it before buying and they all said same thing , that i deserved it as i work hard for it .

If you smile & acknowledge (& if by chance you can talk to) the folks looking at your car, you'll also get a good reaction in return. In other words, just let on that you a regular guy who happens to be a car nut too. Most peeps don't know much about the car, & are genuinely interested to learn more - ignoring them only makes them think that you're a stuck up tosser (a la Fezza/Porker owners, in their eyes)

My philosophy is that my car makes me smile, & if it makes others smile too - bonus, we all feel good, & it costs nowt 8)

When we first got an Elise in '00 we would find small crowds gathered around it. (OK it was Kilmarnock where small crowds still gather around any form of "darned mechanised contraption").

Suzy took one group of small boys for a spin round the block (trying to word that in such a way to avoid double entendres. I realise that is a slim hope) while I held their bikes. Not sure of the wisdom of that in this day and age but it made their day and they had been following us around (trying to keep up whilst we gpt stuck in traffic).

I'm with the others here being friendly means (so far in 7 years) it has not been touched, I just don't think it invites envy like other exotica.
