Generators

Post by scottyf » Thu Aug 09, 2007 9:52 am

Does anyone know anything about Generators? Can anyone recommend one or lend me one for a couple of days?

I need to be able to run an amp, speakers and an LCD monitor outdoors (albeit in a Marquee).

Is it possible to buy an invertor or summat similar and just run them from a car? :scratch

I aint no electrical engineer, so any advice much appreciated.

Ta muchly

An amp, speakers and LCD monitor would be far too much for an invertor from a car.

Is it just to rent/borrow you need one? I could sell you one?.........

Can you find out how much load the amp and speakers etc will draw, should be on them....

You can get little generators from Makro for about £50, should run that lot. :)

LCD monitor:
100-240v
1.6a (50/60hz)

Amp and speakers:
Input 230v - 50hz 164 mA
output 12v 1.5a 18VA

does this help?

I could probably get away with running a laptop instead of an LCD monitor.

would I be able to run a laptop power supply and the amp from a car invertor?

From that:
Screen
250x1.6=400W
Speakers:
250x0.164=~40W

So a genny over 500W will be fine, most little ones will do a couple of kW.

best to get one a bit bigger.

for example microwaves claim to be 650 w, but only 50% efficient so need 1.2Kw to work.

so bigger is better.
