I used Economy van hire last week - wanted something cheap & cheerful - expected to get a 15yr old transit and ended up getting a 3yr old one which was a pleasant surprise

Enterprise were £46, Economy were £25 for 4hrs

That's what they quoted for an off-the-street Joe Public - tbh I canna remember if they did a minimum of 1 day or not now - the ecomomy job fitted my needs best...

Don't get an LDV.

Pricing all broadly the same if you book through online cheap van hire brokers as I discovered :-)

A lot just depends on where you want to collect/return and who is nearest.

I hired from Europcar (via online cheap van hire broker) but price was identical to Enterprise; on balance had I gone with Enterprise I might have not gotten LDV, which would have been a bonus :-)

Cheers,
Robin

Don't know if Euro Van Hire have a place near you. I got a new Transit recently - £39 for 24hrs.

John, There are a couple in Kirkcaldy that are well worth a try. Good News at Denburn or Practical on Junction road. I have used both before because they were the only ones locally that would give a 23 year old a Luton van

Failing that call Arnold!

Very competitive too, although i don't have prices to hand.

John

I am sure there is a fairly cheap place in Cardenden. Not sure what it is called, but I think it is on the main road, Jamphlars?

I've used Arnold a few times and although it's a couple of quid more you're guaranteed a nice newish transit.
Have also used Moto self drive (Nicol St Kirkcaldy) which is cheaper, and I still got a nice new Transit. They take £50 deposit off your card though and refund it after you return the van. I had to chase up the return of my deposit but I did mess them about changing dates at the last minute so admin cock-ups weren't unexpected.

Have used practical in Kirkcaldy too who are also cheap, however I got a sh*t VW van which was slow as a slow thing and nasty to drive. They do have better vans though so just request a Transit.

Just remembered, I think the one in Cardenden is Diamond?
Have also seen vans for A2B (Glenrothes?) and one in Thornton (NVS or summat?)

I'm also looking to hire a van, in Edinburgh. I've had a few quotes online (arnold clark, mitchells, all the usual suspects), mostly around £70-£90 per day. I only need it for about an hour to pick up a set of ladders (no chance of getting them in the elise!).

If anyone has an estate car or car with roofrack willing to spare an hour or so on a saturday or sunday, I'd be willing to reward you (let's say £30 or bottle of single malt!)

Hi MacK
Would you be willing to spare an hour or two of your time to help me get some ladders?

I live in Buckstone (5 mins from city bypass) and only need to go to Homebase (Straiton) and back. I could meet you at Straiton whenever would be convenient for you (any evening after 6pm or anytime at weekends - except this sat afternoon).

You would be handsomely rewarded!
