Who has a LCD TV Wall mounted ?

Post by CSK_423 » Wed Jul 11, 2007 10:13 pm

I'm stuck !!!!

After purchasing a sony bravia 40" I'm looking at wall mounting it but it has to be adjustable something similar to this....

http://www.johnlewis.com/Audio+and+TV/T ... oduct.aspx

I'm wary of it when sitting flat against the wall sticking out too much, according to the link above it's around 100mm and the TV is around the same so in total just over 200mm (20cm) :?

Any ideas welcome or pics if you have them !!

I've got mine wall mounted. I went with a tiltable bracket from Ebay. about £40 inc postage does sit out from the wall a couple of inches. Doing it again i'd probably get a fixed one as it's sitting pretty much level anyway.

excuse the extremely nasty wallpaper - thought I'd get the important things sorted first! :)

edit: mines only a 32" so may not look like such a gap with a 40

Cheers for the pics guys.

I'll be doing the install myself, being a spark to trade it has it's advantages, I'm a pro at butchering plasterboard walls to accommodate cabling :P

EliseR you've reminded me that I need speaker mounts !!!

Absolutely. I have a 75% hearing loss in my left ear, so Audio Perfection is impossible. Still sounds ace.

Gary.
PS - Operation in a month or two which will hopefully result in a better but permanent 25% hearing loss in left ear.

I wall mounted my 42" plasma with a fixed bracket off ebay, never had any need to tilt it.... Doesn't seem to sit out too much, and anyway you need a little bit of room in case you want to fiddle with a cable or something. You can see this here:
Image

All cables run down between bricks and plasterboard... just wish I had the foresight to have run an HDMI lead in when I did it... doh! So, it's staying scart only until I decide to revisit the flooring (which means taking the fireplace out for easier access to my cable route.

If your plasterboard is timberframed then I think you can probably use the batons for a good enough bracket fix. Mine is a brick/block built house and the plasterboard on outer walls is via that 'dab of goo' method with no batons... so I needed to get some decent anchor bolts to go right through to the blocks. Seems fine to me and is solid. I tried to swing off it myself before putting the TV on it.

You can see the anchor bolts in this pick:

Unless you are siting your screen in the corner of the room then I'm not convinced you need a bracket that will adjust horizontally. I mean a display that is 40/42" wide with even a slight angle on it means that either the left or right side is gonna stick way out... which may be OK in the corner but could look a bit off in the middle of a wall.

CSK - i would avoid the bracket you have the link to - they only fix to the wall at one point and unless you have a beam at the correct place fitting the TV is very difficult.

If the TV doen't have to tilt/turn try an Easy Big by OMB it's just a long bar with two uprights you screw to the back of the TV giving you some latitude as to where you put the bracket on the wall as the TV can slide along it.

If the Tv has to tilt down try a Vogels VFW 140 it's the same idea but tilts.

If the TV has to turn also i'm afraid you're stuck with the type of bracket what you have a link to - in that case the best thing to do often is to fix a thin piece of ply or MDF to the wall so that it fixes to two beams and then fit the bracket to that, but you end up with the TV a long way from the wall unless you cut away some of the plasterboard put the ply on the beams and then plaster over it and repaint.

Instead of brackets, I can do some awesome bits of furniture that hold TVs and all associated cabling etc
