Edinburgh to Barcelona.
OK, Claire swaying.
Here are my thoughts:
Leave at 3pm on the 19th, arrive in London ASAP for an overnight.
Breakfast in London before heading for Paris for a spot of (late?) lunch.
Then Paris to the Millau Bridge for a photo or two, then onwards to Barcelona.
I am so hyped about the drive, it will be a lot of fun.
Gary.

i've done 800 miles in 10 hours. its not that bad, take decent walkman/ipod which will dull out the noise. If you know you have something good at the end of it then your excited about doing it.
Personally, i would want to spend a day playing about in the pyranees, but if your doing motorways the whole way then it wont take that long. Also, the best way of covering big distances quickly is at night, which isnt the most romantic thing to be doing on your honeymoon

I remember Nurburg to Edingurgh in one go (with an hour or so break for the ferry). Still OK for Knockhill the next day after kipping in Robin's basement.
Interesting you're heading out just as we're all coming back from the French Frolic trip.

Damn, have a lot on otherwise would have been cool to leave early!alicrozier wrote:I remember Nurburg to Edingurgh in one go (with an hour or so break for the ferry). Still OK for Knockhill the next day after kipping in Robin's basement.

Glasgow-Barcelona is 1,300 miles. It's going to be a tough two days driving, especially if you plan to relax for a couple of hours en route. I have driven Pamplona-London in a day and it took almost a whole day (18 hours IIRC); John D. continued on from London to Linlithgow, but then slept for 24 hours on arrival, whereas I drove up the next day while he slept, so not really any time saved - just more driving when tired and thus more risk of accident. Barca is another 100 odd miles further away.
With the best will in the world (and no regard for speed limits or safety) you are struggling to maintain an average speed of more than 80mph for this sort of distance (consider the need for fuel stops, traffic, etc.) so at a minimum it's going to take you 16 hours plus crossing time plus stopping time.
There is a new motorway somewhere around Tour-Le Man-Rouen IIRC and it will help a lot, but would mean missing Paris.
TBH, it ain't going to be much of a honeymoon (2,600 miles in an elise in a week - good for serious petrol heads but not for your honeymoon) - you should spend your energy on overcoming fear of flight - I am sure Paul McKenna does a CD you can listen to while "resting" that will help you ...
Cost wise you're looking at around 1,000 pounds I would guess for petrol, channel crossings, and tolls on the autoroute. Add to that another 500 for fines if you think you're likely to be attempting 100mph average speed.
Cheers,
Robin

Mans correct...it will be the wrong type of sweating on your honeymoon
Drive to Portsmouth, get the Ferry to Bilbao in Northern Spain, (takes something like 18hrs). Relax, and enjoy the overnight onboard entertainment.
The road from Bilbao to Barcelona takes you through some of Spain best scenery
600km an your not cream crackered when you arrive
Its a winner for you and the wife
PS think of the looooong journey home if you drive all the way......

glasgow to dover - 7hrs
calais to reims - 4hrs (overnight stop)
reims to nice - 8hrs (10days)
we went to Lake gard for our 2nd leg but we were in 2 minds wither to head to spain, Barcelona, basically 4hrs in the opposite direction.
you would be looking at
glasgow to dover - 7hrs
calais to barcelona - 14hrs
(21hrs travelling but that doesn't include your ferry crossing, stopping for fuel, food and a piss !)
We done the journey back from lake gard to glasgow in one stretch I done all the driving and was up for around 27hrs, I felt fine but people can be affected in diff. ways.
I done it in a Audi A4 S-line 2.0TDi and it was a dream I would have loved to do it in the elise but it just wasn't practical, I only managed to just fit 3 cases in the audi boot. The Elise would really take it out of you non stop driving.
Cancel your flights get it done !
