I prefer the old way when you had to overtake on the right - why should the slower car have to move off line for a faster car?
It's not always the case - but most novices are slower so why make their life more difficult.
Faster car should go offline and if that makes taking the corner offline then that's the way it should be.
Main thing is that everyone sticks to the script.

But surely that method doesn't guarantee the slower car is aware of your presence. They could just turn into you, no?
If the slower car has to make a deliberate move to let you pass (ie. leave the normal line).... at least
you know that
they know you're there - whatever their experience?

Whole point is the slower car...even if only slightly slower has to at least let off to let the faster car through.

If they've implemented the rule why argue?

But they won't if overtaking is both sides. Makes it more confusing for people IMO.

Why you guys would want to have passing on both sides, I do not know. It'll lead to one of you getting tangled up with a slower big car who never saw you. Jason is right...if the slower car has pulled off line...at least you know he knows you're there.
If passing cars on different sides enhances your experience...why not do races?
Trackdays are advertised, sold, and insured as non-competitive events for individuals to drive their road car quickly in a controlled environment. There is a passing rule because 'overtaking' is not for position. You aren't going to be spotted by Ron Dennis.
Get into racing if trackdays aren't thrilling enough for you.

But what happens when the slower car doesn't pull off line?
The only way you could be collected by a slower car is if your doing a kamikaze move into the corner under brakes.
I'm not bitching about it - as long as there's one fixed way then that makes it safe and simple. I've been to enough trackdays to have done pretty much most configurations of overtaking and been unlucky enough to have found two cars side by side at the exit of clarkes - one moved off line for me to pass the other stayed on line for me to pass and left me with no where to go.
Why not go racing? It's too expensive

That'd be me.
I suggested it as a solution for those who found trackdays too restrictive.

You don't need to race for those overtaking rules.
If you have your ARDS and your car is properly prepped why not do a testing afternoon at Knockhill???
You can overtake pretty much anywhere, you are on with other ARDS drivers, and its only £55 for a 4 hour session!

Is the four hours not sessioned?
Not a problem if it is as it allows tinkering time - given that you are allowed to time on a test day.

Used to be 20 minute sessions by class - problem was if, as often, there was a red flag incident 10 minutes in and that was it.
But my info may be historic.
