It helps when you dont have a front plate and the rear one is covered in oil/dirt/brakedust etc.....
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Had a really good day on Saturday, despite a now pressing need to get my engine mounts replaced. Hopefully I'm not one of the aforementioned VX drivers that were getting in everyones way - I like clear track to myself, so tend to let everyone past as soon as I can :)

Did anyone get any pics/video of the crashed Westfield? It was the car in front of me on the warmup laps, had a good view of it turning sharp left into the tyres, looked like a heavy impact  Not sure if he just lost traction, but it was a long way from the hairpin when it let go :?

I was a bit disappointed at the pace of the other Westfield, I was able to keep up with it fairly easily and I wouldn't consider myself on the pace of most of you Lotus bods.

Must also say thanks to Ed for the very kind offer of a ride in the Exige, never quite got round to it, but will get out for a few pax laps with you another time :D

I thought the damage on the westie suggested something had snapped at the rear. The left rear wheel was leaning in at a hell of an angle but there was no obvious damage to the bodywork around it.
The other one was pretty slow, I pulled away from it quite easily the one time it was behind me.

The westie driver seemed to think it was all his fault - cold slicks on a wet track.

Fair enough, just not sure how he managed to get so much rear camber without damaging the body.

I spoke to the Westie owner, cold slicks on a damp track. Very honest of him to admit to driver error and not cover it up.

He said that it is designed "come apart" like that to avoid damaging the chassis and the impact was heavy enough for all four corners to "come apart" even though they didnt all make contact with the wall. IYSWIM

I've since had an email from the Westie owner to say that it "may" have been mechanical falure - a rose joint has failed on the n/s/r, which didn't hit the tyres wall, and could have been the root cause of the off. However, it could still have been the cold tyres/damp track which was his initial thought. Without a detailed analysis, it's unlikely to find out for certain.

The other XTR2 has been struggling all year with speed. At the start of the year it was only getting 95mph at the end of the main straight, now up to about 105mph. The other one (which hit the wall) was hitting nearly 130mph at the same point on the same events earlier this year, so there are engine problems of some sort, possibly electrical/ECU type gremlins. A winter re-build may well solve these problems.

Just catching up on this thread after a long weekend away. Thanks once again to John for organising an excellent event. I really enjoyed the first couple of hours, but had to call it a day half way through as my brakes were shagged. I thought that there was more than enough wear left on the front pads at the start but one of them seemed to pretty well disintegrate by mid morning  . Drove the whole way home to West Linton without touching the brakes once - an interesting experience!
