Okay, so I took my car to MMC on Saturday to get some work done under warranty. Heater and brakes. The brakes were rattling (will be cured with buffers) and my rear caliper was binding.
MMC have just called me. They are replacing the heater and fitted the buffer pads - perfect!
"Now the rear calliper Mr Owen, there seems to be some sort of fluid on the disk and pad. Don't know where it's coming from and I can only suggest that it may of been from a passing Lorry with a oil leak!".
You have got to be joking! A passing lorry!!!
So apart from that, they have no idea where this fluid has come from but want to strip the brake down and clean the disk and pad and charge me...£300!!
So my limited knowledge would tell me that it's probably the piston seal and the fluid is actually brake fluid, therefore a faulty part.
I've contacted the service manager at MMC to look into this as I'm not happy! So, if I do pay for it (which I'm NOT going to do), they will clean it without finding the cause of the fluid leak and I'm back to square one!
Any other suggestions!?

At £300 for a strip and clean the hourly rate has to be worse than your local Porsche centre (£90/hr) or the mechanic doing the job ain't got a clue what he's doing.
I'm no mechanic but with a little help from a mate we changed front pads and discs, both sides, on my Box(ster) in less than an hour. Then the backs in the same kinda time.
As far as the fluid on the discs, would expect you are right can't really come from anywhere else, not clever to have oily fluids too close to brakes so routing of pipework should all be well away, shocks of course could be the source, but that would be obvious, oh it could be a passing lorry

They must be useing expensive wrags to clean the oil off too if it'll cost £300.

- Lift car
- Take wheel off
- Remove upper bolt of caliper
- Twist caliper back
- Spray fluid on disc and pads
- Clean with cloth
- Spray again
- Clean with cloth
- Put caliper back
- Put bolt back
- Put wheel back
- Lower car
If that's worth £ 150,- I'll consider moving to Scotland in hours from now

There was a joke a couple of years ago about the 750 machine.

....the guy on the pone must be thinking you're an absolute nutter if he's telling it's from a truck passing by.. How should that have happend? Wheels are clean from the outside I assume?
You might want to ask them to check the CV-Joints/boots etc. If they tear apart (or start to fall apart) A LOT OF GREASE will be released on the complete inside of the wheelarch..
Final outcome is they think it looks like some sort of crude oil picked up on the road.
Front disks have been cleaned up but I'm unsure if I should clean the rear disks and pads or replace them with some of Stu's disks.
