AA cover for older cars?

Post by jamie » Wed Jun 27, 2007 9:07 am

Was going to get some AA cover sorted for the S1 but having alook at the T&C and there is a limit to the age of the cars (less than 10yrs old). What do peeps do for road side recover with cars 10+ or over 100 thousand miles?

The parts and Labour cover is 10 years old and 100k miles when registered, once registered it's covered as long as the service is up to date, but the actual roadside recovery is for any car at all. It even covers cars you are a passenger in.

Trust me :) the Porsche has tested this twice now, 85k miles (Assuming the Odo is original and has worked thoughout its life, which is unlikely) and 27 years old....

Dizzy trigger plug (Well the previous owners crimps) snapped off, fixed in about 30 mins (Now replaced with a proper plug) and then the dizzy got jammed at max advance (Now replaced with a second hand dizzy), AA failed to fix after 2 hours but everything else checked out... Discovered the dizzy problem the next day

The patrolmen I have encountered have all been enthusiastic about the 924 as it isn't a boring euro box and have both got well stuck in fixing it :thumbsup

"Additional specifications applying to Vehicle Membership only

Whereabout in the T&C's??

RAC collected my 21 year old Landy without complaint on Monday evening.

This was the bit - looks like its ok if its personal membership?

Additional specifications applying to Vehicle Membership only
In addition to the general vehicle specifications set out above, the following terms also apply for Vehicle Membership (these are not applicable to Personal Membership):

AA Breakdown Assistance is only available under Vehicle Membership for a vehicle which has been registered with the AA at the time assistance is requested; and
Where only Roadside Assistance is held, the vehicle must be no more than 10 (ten) years old at the date of registration with the AA; and
It is possible to change the vehicle registered under Vehicle Membership during the Membership Year. Please note however that service will not be available for the new vehicle until 24 hours after the AA receives notification of the vehicle change. In addition the AA reserves the right not to re-register any vehicle which has been previously registered during the same Membership Year and to make administration charges where more than 3 (three) vehicle changes have been requested in a Membership Year.

My insurance policy for Land Rover has option of taking out breakdown cover, and Landie is 23 years old, think most classic policies will have something similar. Keith
