I've taken a few gearboxes apart.....

and only re-build one. Couldn't be fecked with the rest.

8) Oily fingers at the ready... I just need to collect my old gearbox from Phoenix!

Hiscot is your man for gearbox type questions. Should not be too bad from what I read, but I'm unsure about the costs involved. Might need a few specialized tools and a load of spares.

My plan is to strip my old one down and assess how easy it will be to repair and then either strip and replace all the broken bits, changing ratios as I go or strip and section it for the cadets to play with. Depends on the level of apathy at the time really....

You see c/r boxes on ebay for less than 200 notes be easier to buy one of them.

Not as much fun....

Besides, I have a dead (ish) std S1 box (Once I fetch it!) to play with then it's a matter of finding the other ratios. Apparently I will need a montego box or something...

get a g4bsv from a write off ( same 3/4/5/ diff as lotus c/r )

then get a 220 turbo box
or a cheap k7 montego box
and fit the lower 2.9 / 1.7 ratios from these boxs into the g4bsv
the 220 turbo also has a torsen diff

Can we build a 6-spd box where 6th = std box 5th, and 3, 4, 5 = CR box ratios?

That's what I really want!

If you bin reverse that will give you a bit more space, but you will need to chop the case around a bit....

Electric reverse? Might be a bit tricky to fit. Or just learn to park facing the right way.

If you think about it (In a superficial way!) reverse is in the right place too, hack about the case and remove the reverse brake it might even work....

Hmm.. a plan congeals....
