My favourite car place, no question. :D

Such a shame it's been made so difficult to go and enjoy without worrying about insurance etc.

I did four laps on a tourist day last year and passed four cars in the barrier:
E90 M3 on slicks heavily damaged on the first tight right hander at the pit lane where the GP circuit branches off, probably 1 minute in to the lap.
Second was a 987 Boxster on UK plates with front and rear damage (and no fluids in the radiator) before you're out of the start complex.
E30 track car and a Suzuki Cappuccino (wft?) both in the barriers elsewhere on the track.

I approached it like a spirited drive in the country rather than a track day, still had a lot of fun and ticked the Nurburgring box but if I was across that way again I'd skip the 'Ring in favour of Spa.

This x1000!

I'd go to Spa once a month if I could. I did a trackday there on the the same trip and enjoyed it so much more than 'the ring'.

Have now seen a few Ring fail videos. Some examples of excellent recovery (or luck?) and some real biggies - which serves to underline the lack of runoff. There really is no margin for error, so the "spirited B road run" mantra is very wise.

I thoroughly enjoyed 2 of my 3 trips to the Ring. The middle one, in which I did 18 laps with some of the SE crew including the usual quality mentoring from Robin, Giles and Ross, was before UK insurance abandoned the circuit. It was epic and I'm thrilled to have been able to do it. My third trip was merely as a spectator and it's unlikely I'll ever take my own car on it again. Perhaps wouldn't rule out a trackday, but Spa is cheaper and trackday or public day, the Ring has the same lack of runoff :-/

Oh and my first trip was in torrential rain, on Pirelli P Zero tyres, in the Elise, when it was barely 3 months old. The place scared the crap out of me. I still went back, clearly... ;-)

Met Sabine, lapped with her up to a point, had a great meal and piss up with her with the guys, she has kept in contact since, second time we never even got on as it was snowed off, but still had a laugh and a good time.
