Clydesdale bank ATMs gone faulty

Post by Dominic » Tue Apr 17, 2007 10:59 am

Went to withdraw cash last night with my RBS card from a Clydesdale bank ATM; put in PIN, selected cash amount, took card, waited for cash.... nothing; then a message saying 'this service is unavailable'

So, I was sure I had plenty on money in my account (I am an accountant after all) & was a bit hacked off  . Managed to get cash with another card from the same machine.

Went to an RBS branch this morning, I have plenty of cash in the account :? . Card not blocked, but the cashier asked of it was a Clydesdale ATM, which it was. He explained that they have had a lot of customers phoning & going in today with the same problem. Apparently, Clydesdale have some sort of problem. He re-assured me that nothing had been deducted from my account last night. I'll be checking my statement very carefully!

The clydesdale bank on the Perth Road in Dundee plays a good trick that I've seen happen to a few people.
You enter your pin, press enter then press the withdraw button but it doesn't seem to work. In fact it's just slow but just as you press the button again, thinking you hadn't already done so, the screen switches and you inadvertently hit the £100 button, which automatically withdraws the money.

The look on someone's face as they realise what's just happened is superb

That will have been me then! Sat in the pub gloating about how i had just f*cked the bank over, although in cold light of day my internet banking said otherwise - someone needs to give that bank machine a software upgrade!!!

ATMS are now smart enough to realise that they have not given any cash out.

It will have taken the cash out your account at first then realised it didnt give you any cash so put it straight back in. Then when the tapes a re run all these debit/credits are removed so in theory should not show on a customers statement. It tends to keep your card if there is a problem with the account.

If there are no funds in the account it will just display the insufficent funds message.
