I was about £290 for a B service and an MOT.

Scott, I went down via Edinburgh and Hawick, probably took 4 hours or so but the roads were great (after getting away from Edinburgh) :D
comment = complaint? back in your suitcase.

Dan has since got in touch - cheers :thumbsup

Actually, it does. Just in a subtle way.

In any case, all's well that ends well!

And Simon, are you one of Dan's most remote customers do you think? Excellent commitment making that round trip...and of course you will have had fun south of EDI ;-)

Folk on here from ABZ use him also, and also people from a similar distance "down the way" go there too. Shows you what good prices, service and know-how does.

Is there anyway we could sort out a car shuttle

Take your car down bring someone elses back?

Or could we import dan for a few days?

Stick him and some of his tools in a van and find him a suitable location

I could provide the location but i have not got a lift

We were chatting on Tuesday about Dan's location and about SE'ers who can't manage the time to go to Newcastle.

Is there a market for having your car transported to Dan and back?

Thoughts please ;)

I.e. one of us drive it down ...??? or trailer it down.... insurance issues there would mean it needs to be a pukker registered carrier.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

No, transported on a flat bed truck with a driver

What insurance issues are there? Please be specific as obviously this needs to be calculated in. And what sort of registration do you feel a carrier requires?

If we got one of the big transporter efforts to go down with say 10-15 cars how much would it cost each? I have no idea but if it is less than a hundred and fifty (both ways)I might be interested. Saves time and I can’t see my being able to get down and back for less than £70 in petrol and sandwiches. The time is worth £70 to me.

Anybody got even the vaguest idea of what it would cost?

The main problem with transporting a large number of vehicles at once is
coordination - you would need to get all the cars in the same place at the same time to get them picked up. Also when we've asked around before, it's turned out to be very expensive anyway (like 1,000s).

Shipping one or two cars at once is probably the optimum number, especially if you take one and pick up another in the same trip.
What insurance issues are there?
I asked a ferry company once what liability they had for my car and it was very limited - I don't know how different that would be for road haulage, but my guess is that the haulage company typically offers only minimal insurance against damage and it's up to the individual to insure the cargo beyond that. However, in the rather special case of transporting cars, I've had a poke about on 'tinternet and at least some are offering 100K cover per vehicle.

Lawrence, are you thinking gentlemen's agreement or were you thinking of establishing a limited company to take the proceeds, own the vehicle, etc.?

The gentlemen's agreement has most scope for being efficient and yet profitable, but involves an element of trust (and risk - the rare case of a vehicle being damaged in such a way that it couldn't be covered by the owner's car insurance policy).

The limited company approach brings in full bureaucracy (tax, insurance, health and safety, accountancy, etc., etc.) and with it the full costs.

Cheers,
Robin

I was just thinking aloud really :)

If there is interest, then I know someone who may enjoy the trip to Newcastle and back once a week.

It's all down to interest I guess, and whilst the vehicle is available.
