Comedy ride height?!
The 335d is possibly a bit higher than a 330d but it's hardly comedy ride height.
*edit* photoshopped the shadows out a bit so you can see the wheel arches properly. I definitely wouldn't want it any lower, but I do have the 'sporty' splitter on the front and can only reverse out my drive or it scrapes.

Comedy was maybe a bit strong but I feel like the X-drives look like you could get a fist in between the front wheel and the arch.
Just ruins the stance in my opinion.
BMW always did stance spot-on from the factory but not so much any more.
Did you have a full boot in the pic? My cousin has a 330d xdrive which looks like it sits higher than that.

Car completely empty, less than 1/4 tank fuel... max ride height pic...
Will do a side by side comparison with the Mike and the rest of the 330d posse and the next SEBMW meet

Campbell, as much as I love the Skoda I'm a BMW man at heart. Really miss my old 330d.
My mate has a mk3 vRS estate which is a great car but I want something which has an engine with a bit of character and I feel VAG don't offer that.
If the vRS diesel had 220bhp or so I might be tempted but as it is, I feel the need for a 6 cylinder again.
The 125d and a 330d/335d would be a good stable

Noted, Steve. None of our engines has much character at the moment. Although the torque in the TTD Quattro seems considerably better than the Octavia. It's almost pick of the bunch! (Apart from the Club Racer, obvz...)

Petrol is the future, so surely drop the D and a 335i or 340i for a 6 cylinder fix !
Had a 24hr test drive of a m140i averaged 24mpg (though first 15miles was 14mpg) and a nice engine, only around 10mpg less than our 320d touring does in its mostly non motorway driving.

The last 335D XDrive I came across had a pretty crazy looking ride height.
From what I saw, wasn't all that good at being a 4WD either, utter crap offroad...
Truely hateful cars, nothing at all to do with that being my written off Alfa in the background caused by that Bavarian cue ball...

Exactly this. Diesel offers nothing now. Narrow power band, sh*t soundtrack, only high mileage use makes a case.
Four cars in the Beaton stable now, diesel free for over a year now and no intention of a return

My commute is just under 100 miles as a round trip.
I’m getting 40mpg in a 300+ bhp 4wd estate with stupid high torque too. Mix of stop start and foot down blasts when the traffic allows on the m8.
The noise from the 6 cylinder diesel is actually surprisingly good and the power band is just constant. It’s an epic engine for what it does.
Similar power on a petrol would be nowhere near, much as I’d love it to be. Considered an S4 but it would be at the petrol station every other day instead of once a week.
Still plenty life left in the diesel imho. It’s not dead yet.
Obviously if I had a more sensible commute I’d be in a v8 or similar. Daft buying a diesel for a 1 mile commute (like a guy I know did and had constant dpf issues as a result)

I'm definitely in the average mileage category (~12k per year) but I still think diesel holds an appeal.
The complaint of a narrow power-band I don't really understand, and especially with an 8 speed auto the power is seamless and relentless with a powerful diesel.
I'd consider a Golf R or 340i but 40mpg in a diesel if you hammer it compared with 30mpg in a petrol if you drive sensibly saves about £40 a month on my average mileage which means I can add another £2k onto the budget to buy the car (bank loan).
There are certainly scenarios where I think petrol is better but diesel is still a sensible choice without mega-miles I reckon.
