Borneo 1964.

Post by tut » Fri Sep 18, 2015 1:42 pm

Just found this in the BBC archives of a Documentary that they made in 1964 of my Troop on ambush patrols in Sabah, North Borneo.

Interesting watch. 12 hours of jungle night must have been pretty grim.

Should add: 50 years on and British soldiers are still fighting, at least back then it had clearer aims.

Mossies, bull leeches, just about every species of snake, bird eating spiders, tarantulas, and that was just for dinner.....

Am thinking David Attenborough. The Crested Tut is rarely seen, but his trail is unmistakeable. Tripe, broken hearts and condoms.

Not sure if I appeared on that one Dom as it covered two Sections and I was probably away checking out the local talent. Mine was 3 Section, 5 Troop, B Company, 40 CDO RM, and I think it was mainly of 2 Section nancy boys whilst we were guarding the perimeter.

They liked a bit of Royal and compo ration packs were in great demand.

Was waiting for Monty, Campbell and DDtB - we had arranged an impromptu dinner, but they were, as usual, late - so I was in the Alexander Graham Bell which happens to be next door to where we were eating.

This morning I am pleased that I only had the four or five Guinness ...

Cheers,
Robin

P.S. I am similarly pleased that Woofy rolled in something smelly and now needs a bath ....
