Track day.. Winter tyres or not...

Post by Jam_s160 » Tue Mar 24, 2015 4:26 pm

Okay, this Saturday we have SIDC knock hill track day looming = excited

Last weekend I spent time checking the car, new discs, pads, oil change etc... Also swapped my winter wheel set back to summer set (AD07 that came with the car). I've been out the last few days and it's back to like driving on ice with the still Lowish temps, greasy roads and wet patches etc.

Got me wondering if I should swap them back to winters to be honest, as significant more grip and better in the wet / damp. Weather looks a little cold / damp / rainy on Saturday so far.

What say you folks on hear? Anyone left winters on before?

I am no expert, but I think winters would get destroyed on track. Once you have done a few laps and everything is warmed up, the "summer" tyres should work well IMHO.

:withstupid Switch back to summers, after a few laps the winters will be past their best unless it is particularly cold/ wet*.

*There has just been a hail shower in Glasgow so anyones guess what Knockhill will be like  (I would still switch to summers though.)

Never had winter tyres on my car, but I have been out in pretty wet conditions at KH on A048s, which soon get temp into them and grip far better than they should.

Agree with above, stick the summers on it.

I can overheat the winter tyres on the diesel civic just now so I would stick with summers.

Yup, winters will just overheat and die.

as above - they don't like high speed or heat, so stick clear of trackdays whatever you do.

I'm wondering if I need a giggle and put them back on... Lots of rain, wind and temps of 4-5degrees. Just do 5 min sprint laps instead :damnfunny
