To get the weight "down" to 1360kg is almost more impressive than forcing 1360bhp out of the engine ... I wouldn't have one though.

Well, it weighs pretty much the same as a 911 RSR (ready to drive weight) and has more than twice the horsepower. The extra strength you need to feed that power to the wheels in terms of gearbox weight, engine mount and chassis strength, etc., is quite a lot. Sure it'll cost £1million or something mad, so not a fair comparison, but compare it to a bugatti veyron with equally bonkers cost and its puny 1100bhp and 500kg extra weight, and it's pretty impressive, no?

Making a huge engine is not so hard; making a huge engine that doesn't weigh much, doesn't destroy its transmission or warp the chassis every time you give it full power, on the other hand, is not!

I wouldn't have one simply because I couldn't imagine taking it on track (even if I could afford one), and actually I don't think I would ever get it up to speed - where would you do it? You would need to be on a new-ish section of motorway that was totally empty and maybe 10 miles of clear road - so the M6 toll on xmas morning, maybe?

Cheers,
Robin

Your point of view reminds me of the comment about the Koenigsegg in the Gumball 3000 movie. Along the lines of "looks gorgeous but this is an endurance event, that's going to last 5 minutes". :-)

With that amount of power you are only ever going to be using part of it or else the car would take off.

For me having watched a few of the videos, it is the enthusiasm and love that he puts into every part if it, and how proud he is of his own creation. The carbon wheels were just an example, he tries to get everything as light as possible, but unlike Chapman I think that he makes it strong enough to do the job as well.

I think that the Bugatti Veyron was probably one of the greatest cars ever built, not talking beauty etc, just the pure engineering that went into it and the fact that everybody else is still trying to catch up. It was also useable performance as shown by the number of people who safely took it up to 260mph. And now they are coming up with a 1600hp version and cutting weight as well.

Long may it continue that companies such as these, Zonda as well, continue to make cars that defy PC and the Green Brigade, we may never be able to own a Hypercar, or Megacar, but we already have members who have Supercars.

I will never reach the top speed of my car which I believe is now 175, or even very rarely the acceleration on the road that it is capable of, but I know it is there if I wanted to.
