An 18 year old teenager in America was suing her parents for child support and funding for her College education after she left home following a falling out with her parents because she refused to follow house rules.

That is actually quite sad. I feel for the parents who's only wish is to bring up their kids with some degree of responsibility and they end up in court. Agree with Shug that this is probably more down to low life lawyers than any real substance.

Girl sues parents first. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind, subject to the limited information available, that if the same case had been brought here she would have won. Scots’ law is clear that a parent has an absolute duty to aliment to the age of 25.

Drunk idiot. The casino broke the law by continuing to serve an obviously drunk man alcohol and by allowing him to play at their tables. He suffered losses as a result, he has a right of recourse. On a slightly different analysis the casino lent the man money (entered into a contract with him) when he obviously did not have capacity to enter into a contract (drunk), there is therefore no meeting of minds and no contract. There is therefore no duty to repay the money – which in truth the casino has anyway. This would also have good prospects in Scotland.

I am in no way qualified to make anything other than a general comment but surely the age at which a parents direct duty duty ceases is 16 and their responsuibiltiy to provide appropriate guidance and care continues to 18 unless the child has specific 'special needs' and they can freely leave the parental home from 18, or 16 if parents agree.
Certainly in criminal terms the parent has no liability past the age of 18

A very common misconception. As I say above the duty to provide financial support for the purposes of education is until 25.

Capacity is a different issue and in the simplest of terms you can do most things at 16 (including leaving the parental home) subject to the statutory provisions on driving, voting etc etc. I think you are right about the 16/18 with consent issue if we were talking about England.
