Re: Fitting a harness bar
That is interesting. Mum drivers a wheelchair converted vw caddy, I was concerned to see the seatbelt bolts are all 8.8 when I looked (the drivers are all changed as part of the conversion) as well as a couple of other basic errors.Kinger wrote:I seem to recall my 1st Kit car failed its SVA test as I have fitted Grade 8.8 bolts, it had to be High tensile 10.9 bolts to meet the Regulations at the time.
Worth the extra few pence since your life might depend on them one day ( Hopefully not)
Cheers
Pete, think we had this conversation, but are you fitting proper harness seats?
Re: Fitting a harness bar
We did, I'm sure you said it would be fine. I'm really tall.woody wrote:That is interesting. (It was your suggestion that I just man up and take the seats out!)

Re: Fitting a harness bar
I remember it now. Think I also said a proper harness seat is still the best idea.
I I was a bit surprised you'd taken the seats out, but remember that too. I did show you the ways of the hammer.

Re: Fitting a harness bar
Pete, If you can, keep the standard 3 point seat belt as well as the harnesses - makes trips like popping to the shops much easier!
Re: Fitting a harness bar
You have standard seats don't you Dom? (may have to pop over and look at them)
Which straps?

The Schroth ASM I had in the Shugmobile were one of the best choices I ever made for it. Bought from MSAR.

Re: Fitting a harness bar
Correct - the ASM are designed to be used as 4 pointers and have a section that stops submarining under the lap straps in a crash.pete wrote:That was a standard seat too with no crotch strap?Shug wrote:The Schroth ASM I had in the Shugmobile were one of the best choices I ever made for it. Re: Fitting a harness bar
Just ensure the shoulder straps are bolt-in and not wrap around. I think I had to order them as wrap around (the only way to get the lap straps that fit the Elise seat bolts) and a pair of bolt in plates to thread the harnesses through. Wrap around could have a tendency to wander apart on the bar if they aren't located by seat-holes.

Re: Fitting a harness bar
Hey Pete, do you still need the bolts? I've got a spare set of the high tensile jobbies.
I beleive (placebo or not) that the harnesses have made a great difference to how my car feels to drive.

Re: Fitting a harness bar
I have the harnesses in with standard seat and 3 point seatbelt, welcome to pop round anytime for a swatch.
