My wee MX5

Post by renmure » Sun Jan 13, 2013 3:13 pm

Suppose I will have to suffer the "hairdresser" comments, but here goes... :blackeye

Went down to JCT600 in Leeds last week to collect my new Mazda MX5. It is the 2 litre 170BHP version. Never driven one before or even been in one until driving it home and until a few days before buying it, don't think we had given any consideration to having one. But with the R300 away to France just before Christmas there was a space in the garage for a convertible with 2 seats and the realisation that if it was too "hardcore" then it would probably never get used. Having "done" the elise thing, that seemed to leave a Z3M, Z4, SLK, Boxter, TT or MX5. The Mazda seemed the "sensible" choice so for a change we decided to be sensible.

I really, really like it. It is sporty without being racey, fast enough without being rapid but is really comfortable and very easy to live with. More boring sensible stuff: Insurance is £155, servicing is cheap, does about 40mpg, roof pops up and down in seconds, heated seats keep your bum toasty and making a cheeky offer on a 2 seater sports car over the phone on 2nd December is a good way to get a bit of a deal. 08 reg, 1 owner, under 18k miles, FSH, just serviced, fresh MOT, year warranty, and all for just under £8k. Sensible or wot.

I get extra Brownie Points 'cause it is the one Wendy chose as well :)

Far to sensible.
Sure you will have lots of fun in it though.

Yes. :blackeye

I Have been down to JCT in Leeds before and knew they weren't likely to sell bad cars but didn't really want to make a trip to see it then another to collect it.. but also didn't want to come across as one of these guys who phone up and just make offers on cars that they hadn't seen for fun, so was looking for a wee bit of advice from the sales guys on PH as to how best to do a good deal at a distance. All went smoothly

Looks like a great buy, very nice in its own right - and I can fully appreciate the bangs-for-buck appeal 8)

For something to use as a roundaround / commuter car, I can see the sense in that. :thumbsup
