The days of a bargain E28 are gone sadly. These lot seem to have cornered the market for good ones.tonyg wrote:BMW E28 M5 - link to pistonheads article below

(wouldn't make much money on it), but i've never been in a car that felt so well built and solid and also felt delicate, responsive and nimble.

Re: Which Classic would you invest in?
I have never understood why anyone would want to run or pay alot of money for an old Mitsubishi / BMW / Subaru or many of the other cars mentioned.
MK2 escorts are another one thats mental.
If your going to buy a "classic" it really has to be fast and rare and there needs to be a poster of it on some kids wall.

I sold my mk1 RS2000 despite people on here (and loads of people not on here) telling me to keep it.BiggestNizzy wrote:I have never understood why anyone would want to run or pay alot of money for an old Mitsubishi / BMW / Subaru or many of the other cars mentioned.

All said and done it drove like a shaky, sh*t old ford and that was after I replaced all the bushes and rack etc! I think people develop fond memories of these cars and remember them as being better than they actually are.
My 205gti is another one that's a shock to the system. It is more modern than the escort but its still incredible how dated it feels to drive. I guess that sometimes that's the point of classics.

Ive always had a thing for rally cars, can't buy anything much faster for the money and only a few hundred left in the world makes them pretty rare.BiggestNizzy wrote:I have never understood why anyone would want to run or pay alot of money for an old Mitsubishi / BMW / Subaru or many of the other cars mentioned.

Not got the Evora yet - cant wait, hopefully next weekend. I went a bit over my agreed budget on the Evora so I think the exhaust will have to wait - but I agree there are some out there with amazing sounds.

A couple of years ago one of my pals turned up at my house with a clio 172 (a car that I had owned about 8 years previously when it was new). I took it for a drive for a trip down memory lane (metaphorically speaking), and was very underwhelmed by it. I know his car had quite a few more miles under it's wheels than I did in mine, but it was a real disappointment.

Dom, there's an analogy regarding women screaming to be made here, but I've had a few so will refrain

Yeah but anyone with a pulse would want to drive it, at which point it's surely going to stop appreciating

A few more to consider
Alfa SZ
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3690851.htm
BMW Z3M
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3984167.htm
Maybe a bit more of a gamble but would be fun TVR T350
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3916860.htm
Shopping trolley option - I agree on the Audi A2 - the odd one comes up at a reasonable price.
Off the wall and stupid suggestion - Delorian
