(wouldn't make much money on it), but i've never been in a car that felt so well built and solid and also felt delicate,responsive and nimble.

I have never understood why anyone would want to run or pay alot of money for an old Mitsubishi / BMW / Subaru or many of the other cars mentioned.

I sold my mk1 RS2000 despite people on here (and loads of people not on here) telling me to keep it.

All said and done it drove like a shaky, sh*t old ford and that was after I replaced all the bushes and rack etc! I think people develop fond memories of these cars and remember them as being better than they actually are.
My 205gti is another one that's a shock to the system. It is more modern than the escort but its still incredible how dated it feels to drive. I guess that sometimes that's the point of classics.

Ive always had a thing for rally cars, can't buy anything much faster for the money and only a few hundred left in the world makes them pretty rare.

Not got the Evora yet - cant wait, hopefully next weekend. I went a bit over my agreed budget on the Evora so I think the exhaust will have to wait - but I agree there are some out there with amazing sounds.

Refreshingly honest appraisal of a classic. I think a lot of enthusiasts expect classics to drive and behave like modern cars, they are far from it. Driving my dad's 1961 Healey 3000 required a significant re-programming of my mindset. In fact come to think of it, jumping from my Audi to the Elise requires a change of mindset!

A couple of years ago one of my pals turned up at my house with a clio 172 (a car that I had owned about 8 years previously when it was new). I took it for a drive for a trip down memory lane (metaphorically speaking), and was very underwhelmed by it. I know his car had quite a few more miles under it's wheels than I did in mine, but it was a real disappointment.
