Kames Trackday Anyone?
Kames Trackday Anyone?
I spoke, last night, to John Stevenson (some will know him from sprints + SIDC) who chairs the committee that run the sprint track at Kames as regards holding a trackday there sometime. for those who don't know the place Kames is well suited to the Elise being a tight and involving wee sprint circuit in the Ayrshire wilderness.
To hire the facilities we would need 12 to 20 drivers to make it worthwhile. To get on there now you must join East Ayrshire Car Club at £20/ year plus a track hire fee of £25. For this we'd have the track for the whole day, but we'd have to have 2 qualified first aiders and pretty much marshal the place ourselves; at any event I’ve helped with there in the past this has not been an issue (all the equipment is there).
Being a sprint track it's only one car on at a time (usually for 3 laps) and the event would be run in effect open pits; once you leave the circuit you rejoin the queue.
It’s getting on in the year now, so it'd be best to organise something soon, if not wait till next year?
So anyone interested? (John told me a certain Tut could do with the practice round Kames?)

I can vouch it's good fun if a bit narrow with little runoff.
If you get bored you can always run it in the opposite direction...

Not really, there are gravel traps and grass runoff but the track is narrow compared to KH (not much wider than the car in places).GregR wrote:narrow run off as in:- I run out of talent I run into something?

Re: Kames Trackday Anyone?
I have driven Kames a couple of times and it is a lot of fun, so I would be interested. My first ever experience of driving my Elise on track was at Kames in the wet. Less run off than KH, but the speeds are much lower too - the majority of the circuit is second gear, with third just grabbed for a few seconds on the short straight.

Great wee facility and if it comes off at a time when I can attend, I'll definately be there. Could also try and round up some marshals through contacts with Glasgow Uni motorsports club, in return for pax laps, I dare say
